Senior Assembly, Integration & Test (AI&T) Technician
Quantum Space
Position: Senior Assembly, Integration & Test (AI&T) Technician
Location: Rockville, MD
Commitment: Full-time, all-in
Who We’re Looking For
Quantum Space is redefining mobility and maneuverability in space. Our high-mobility spacecraft platforms support national security, civil, and commercial missions with unmatched flexibility and propulsion capability. We build fast and iterate quickly.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Assembly, Integration & Test (AI&T) Technician to join our team. The Senior AI&T Technician will take a lead role in the assembly, integration, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems, supporting advanced aerospace and high-performance hardware programs. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, deep understanding of build processes, and the ability to work hands-on with precision flight hardware in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment. You will support engineers in planning and executing integration operations, developing assembly procedures, and performing verification and validation testing.
Where You’ll Make an Impact
- Lead and perform the mechanical and electromechanical assembly and integration of flight and non-flight hardware.
- Interpret and execute complex engineering drawings, 3D models, schematics, and work instructions.
- Perform detailed mechanical alignments, precision torque applications, bonding, and fit checks.
- Support and often lead functional and environmental testing (vibration, thermal, thermal vacuum, pressure, and leak testing).
- Assist in the development of build and test procedures and provide feedback to engineering for continuous improvement.
- Perform data collection during tests and ensure accurate documentation of results and configurations.
- Mentor and train junior technicians on best practices for hardware handling, assembly, and testing.
- Support GSE (Ground Support Equipment) setup, operation, and maintenance.
- Maintain compliance with FOD control, ESD, and cleanroom requirements at all times.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to ensure successful integration and test outcomes.
What It Takes
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical assembly, integration, and testing; preferably within aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing industries.
- Proven experience with flight or high-reliability hardware and strict configuration control environments.
- Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, and test procedures.
- Proficiency with precision hand tools, torque wrenches, and metrology instruments.
- Experience executing thermal, vibration, or vacuum testing and documenting results per procedure.
- Strong understanding of mechanical fasteners, adhesives, and torque application standards.
- Familiarity with PLM and ERP systems for configuration and documentation (e.g., Windchill, SAP).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work hands-on in a lab or cleanroom environment.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (if required by program).
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience supporting spacecraft, payloads, or high-performance defense systems.
- Knowledge of GSE operations, pressure testing, and safe handling of flight hardware.
- Certification to NASA-STD-8739, IPC-A-610, or J-STD-001 standards.
- Experience leading small integration or test teams.
- Familiarity with test instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
What You’ll Get
- Ownership – Lead and execute the hands-on integration and testing of flight systems that enable our spacecraft to operate in orbit.
- Innovation – Work with cutting-edge flight hardware and help refine processes that push the limits of performance and reliability.
- Impact – Play a key role in delivering spacecraft ready for launch; your craftsmanship directly supports mission success.
- Growth – Join a fast-moving, multidisciplinary team where your technical leadership will shape the next generation of Quantum’s spacecraft.
- Compensation – Competitive salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, generous leave, HSA, 401(k) matching, and equity sharing.
