Position: Spacecraft RF Engineer
Location: Rockville, MD
Commitment: Full-time, all-in

Who We’re Looking For

Quantum Space is redefining mobility and maneuverability in space. Our high-mobility spacecraft platforms support national security, civil, and commercial missions with unmatched flexibility and propulsion capability. We build fast and iterate quickly.

We are seeking an experienced and driven Spacecraft RF Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of SATCOM and RF/microwave subsystems across our spacecraft and ground systems. In this role, you will define architectures, develop requirements, and ensure mission success across the full product lifecycle—from concept and design through integration, test, and delivery.

You will be a technical leader within a rapidly moving team, directly owning critical communication hardware and integration efforts that enable mission success. This position requires deep expertise in RF engineering, hands-on design and testing experience, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic, execution-focused environment.

Where You’ll Make an Impact

  • Develop system-level telecommunications architectures for LEO, MEO, GEO, and cislunar missions, including SATCOM terminals and TT&C subsystems.
  • Design and oversee the development of RF/microwave components such as BUCs, LNBs, antenna feeds, transceivers, TWTAs, RF switches, couplers, and phased-array systems.
  • Translate customer and mission requirements into detailed engineering specifications, leading SWaP-C trade studies and link budget analyses.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams (RF, systems, software, mechanical/thermal) through design, integration, and verification of communications systems.
  • Define, implement, and execute product- and system-level acceptance and performance verification testing.
  • Contribute to internal and external design reviews (KOM, SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, PRR) and provide technical assessments and risk evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Program Management to support technical proposals and customer engagements for DoD and commercial programs.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to team development and technical excellence.

What It Takes

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field (M.S. preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in RF communications engineering, with demonstrated contributions to system architecture and product development for SATCOM or aerospace/defense applications.
  • Proficiency in RF/microwave design across S- through Ka-bands, including SATCOM terminal development and RF chain design.
  • Strong understanding of telecom subsystems, link budgets, phased arrays, beamforming, and advanced antenna technologies.
  • Hands-on experience across the program lifecycle, from requirements decomposition through test and delivery.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools and processes including ICD/SCD/spec development and earned value management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • 7+ years in RF or communications subsystem design, integration, and test.
  • Experience working with government and/or commercial satellite programs.
  • Strong presentation skills for technical reviews and stakeholder briefings.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, system roadmaps, or product catalogs.
  • Broad understanding of avionics or spacecraft systems engineering.

What You’ll Get

  • Innovation – The opportunity to define and deliver next-generation space communications systems.
  • Impact – Shape the future of space connectivity and see your designs fly on real missions supporting national security, science, and commercial markets.
  • Compensation – Competitive salary, equity, and top-tier benefits: medical, dental, vision, generous leave, HSA, 401(k) matching, and equity sharing.

Additional Requirements

To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including ITAR, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual per 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
