Spacecraft Avionics Systems Engineer – Quantum Space

Who We’re Looking For:

Quantum Space is revolutionizing space with highly maneuverable and long-lasting spacecraft, and we need a world-class Spacecraft Avionics Engineer to design, develop, and implement avionics systems that push the boundaries of what’s possible.

We’re looking for a highly motivated engineer with the expertise to formulate, design, integrate, and test spacecraft electrical systems. You will enable our in-house system development by defining requirements, building, testing, and providing oversight for suppliers and partners.

Where You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Avionics Systems Design – Develop state-of-the-art avionics systems, including power management, telemetry, command systems, and fault detection.
  • Hardware & Software Integration – Ensure seamless integration of embedded systems, sensors, and communication protocols.
  • Testing & Validation – Develop and conduct subsystem and system test plans with ground support test equipment. Perform rigorous testing, debugging, and validation of spacecraft avionics systems to meet mission requirements.
  • Spacecraft Autonomy – Implement AI-driven fault detection, automated diagnostics, and enhanced system resiliency.
  • Mission Success – Support vehicle integration, launch operations, and on-orbit commissioning for Quantum Space missions.
  • Wire Harness and PCBA Design – Develop, analyze, and validate wire harnesses and printed circuit board assemblies for robust spacecraft operation.
  • RF System Design – Support design, analysis, and testing of RF communication systems, ensuring optimal performance in space environments.
  • Requirements Development – Define subsystem and payload/instrument electrical requirements and interfaces.
  • Budgeting – Develop and maintain spacecraft performance budgets.
  • Supplier & Vendor Coordination – Perform make/buy trade studies and oversee vendor and industry interactions.

What It Takes:

  • A passion for pushing the limits of space technology, designing avionics solutions that outperform legacy systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred) with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in spacecraft avionics, including digital/analog electronics, embedded software, and flight computer architectures.
  • Experience with radiation-hardened electronics, fault-tolerant design, and space-grade component selection.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.).
  • Experience with wire harness design, PCBA development, and RF system design or testing.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as Python, C++, and/or MATLAB for automation of test or analysis tasks.
  • Familiarity with industry interface standards such as I2C, RS422, LVDS, SpaceWire, 1553, and Gigabit Ethernet.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead and interact with distributed team members.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where adaptability and ownership are critical.
  • A hands-on approach—when something needs fixing, you step in and make it happen.

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Experience with launch and mission operations.
  • Experience in EMI/EMC design and testing.
  • Working knowledge of real-time operating system software such as VxWorks and Linux.

What You’ll Get:

- Compensation – Competitive salary, equity, and top-tier benefits.
- Innovation – The opportunity to design next-generation space avionics systems.
- Impact – Your work will directly enable Quantum Space’s mission success in cislunar and deep-space operations.
- Career Growth – Work alongside industry leaders and gain unparalleled experience in advanced space technologies.
- Comprehensive Benefits – Medical, dental, vision, generous leave, FSA, 401(k) matching, and equity sharing.
