We’re looking for an experienced, highly motivated Mission Design and Simulation Engineer, to develop models, perform trade-studies, execute system sensitivity studies, quantify design optimization parameters for space system trajectories, subsystem elements, and system level platforms and architectures.

We’re looking for an experienced, highly motivated Mission Design and Simulation Engineer, to develop models, perform trade-studies, execute system sensitivity studies, quantify design optimization parameters for space system trajectories, subsystem elements, and system level platforms and architectures.
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Develop mission analyses, timelines, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for launch vehicles, spacecraft, satellite, payload, and communication elements
- Integrate the mission design with the concept of operation, mission plan, and flight software and develop mission planning tools
- Perform orbital analyses for trans-lunar injection, geo-transfer orbits, Libration points station keeping, and lunar/Earth Moon Libration point transfers
- Design architecture concepts considering partner constellation elements, payload and spacecraft capabilities, data collection requirements, autonomy, and mission operations
- Complete RF link budgets and frequency modeling considering terrestrial, lunar, and orbital platform communication, and antenna systems, as well as obscuration, margins, and data latency factors
- Evolve and implement 3DoF/6DoF models to characterize vehicles and satellite systems propulsion (axial and delta velocity), power, precision, navigation, timing, and tracking requirements
- Generate statistically significant data analyses and 3D visualizations
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM field; Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Aerospace engineering and or astrodynamics background
- Strong mathematical and analytical background
- Experience with physics-based software packages and model-based digital engineering tools
- Ability to integrate commercially developed software tools with internally-derived analysis codes to optimize analysis and performance capabilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of STK, SOLIS, and/or custom-developed equivalent
- Comprehensive knowledge working with MATLAB, Python, or equivalent for interpreting and analyzing data sets
- Experience creating visual representation tools and GUIs
- Working knowledge of the following programming languages: C, C++, Java
- Strong technical understanding of digital and hardware in the loop models and simulations
- Ability to communicate technical data clearly and efficiently
- Work location within the DMV area
- Master’s degree in STEM field; Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
- Experience in RF link budget design and modeling
- Experience in EO/IR radiometric modeling
- Experience developing autonomous systems
- Experience with attitude control systems and orbit determination
- Experience with flight software and embedded systems
- Experience with space missions and operations
