As a fully owned subsidiary of Safran Electronics & Defense, Safran Electronics & Defense Australasia Pty Ltd (SEDA) delivers and supports various products including high-performance optronics and inertial navigation equipment.


Reporting to the Head of Operations and Sustainment, the Industrial Engineering Lead is responsible for designing, coordinating, and executing industrial solutions for the implementation of an MRO Optronics Center of Excellence (CoE) at SEDA to support future product lines. The Industrial Engineering Lead will work closely with the Optronics MRO CoE Project Manager, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams in France to develop scalable processes, optimize facility layouts, define training programs, and manage the introduction of specialized tools and equipment. By leveraging expertise in process design, technology transfer, and optronics systems, the Industrial Engineering Lead will ensure that MRO operations are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with global standards.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Solution Design & Planning
- Design MRO process solutions for Optronics products, ensuring scalability for future expansion, including:
- Map and develop the capability baseline based on preventive maintenance, recurring activities, MTBF, and spares cost across multiple product lines.
- Identify and leverage commonality across product lines to drive economies of scale.
- Define and design new industrial schemes in line with project strategy and objectives.
- Conduct facility assessments and reviews to determine required modifications/upgrades.
- Identify training programs, including development of skills matrices and qualification paths for special processes.
- Liaise with local suppliers for make/buy decisions on tooling and test bench manufacturing, managing both ‘built to print' and ‘built to spec' scenarios.
- Develop modular implementation and validation plans to support staged roll-out and upper management decision gates.
- Lead detailed costing analysis covering key investments, scalability, and both recurring (RC) and non-recurring costs (NRC).
- Define implementation strategies, and present options and risk mitigation plans to top management.


Implementation & Execution
- Oversee implementation of facility changes necessary for capability rollout.
- Manage procurement and/or manufacture of special test equipment (S&TE) and required resources.
- Lead the implementation of MRO/operating processes, ensuring best practice transfer and standardization.
- Develop, transfer, and document procedures and work instructions to operational teams.
- Roll out training program, ensuring all staff are certified and validated to required standards.
- Drive commissioning and capability validation on supported product lines.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role you must have:

- Bachelor's or master's degree in industrial engineering, or related field.
- Deep understanding of Optronics systems and associated MRO processes, including industrial scheme design, qualification, and validation processes.
- Experience in mapping, analyzing, and optimizing MRO workflows.
- Proven record in designing, transferring and implementing industrial and process solutions for aeronautical or defense equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in orchestrating technology transfer and industrial validation in an international context.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage and operate effectively with SED in an international context.
- Desirable French language proficiency is required for effective cross-border collaboration.
- Experience in engaging with suppliers, managing make/buy strategies, and technical contract management.
- Strong project management, planning, and reporting skills.
- Australian citizenship is desirable, and applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain an Defence security clearance.
