Job Description
Position Summary:
The Calibration Technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, traceability, and timely calibration of measurement tools and equipment used across the manufacturing environment. This role will coordinate external calibration services, maintain internal calibration standards (e.g., gage blocks and scales), and verify that shop floor tools meet company and industry requirements aligned with AS9100D Clause 7.1.5.
Desired Experience:
2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or quality assurance environment with exposure to calibration programs
Familiarity with using and maintaining common shop measurement tools such as:
- Calipers (digital and dial)
- Micrometers
- Tape measures
- Height gages
- Scales and balances
Experience coordinating with external ISO 17025-accredited calibration vendors
Background in aerospace, automotive, or other regulated industries preferred
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in metrology, precision measurement, quality assurance, or related field preferred
Working knowledge of calibration principles and measurement uncertainty
Understanding of traceability concepts and national standards (e.g., NIST)
Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems is beneficial
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data entry for calibration logs
Key Skills and Competencies:
Attention to Detail: Ability to detect wear, damage, or drift in measurement tools
Organizational Skills: Capable of managing calibration schedules, tracking certificates, and maintaining calibration recall logs
Communication: Clear communication with external calibration vendors, quality engineers, and production personnel
Problem Solving: Able to identify and quarantine out-of-tolerance tools and work with stakeholders on corrective actions
Documentation & Recordkeeping: Accurate documentation of calibration status, equipment history, and vendor certificates
Time Management: Ability to prioritize and schedule calibrations to minimize production disruptions
Tooling Inventory Management: Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records of measurement tools and calibration equipment
Tooling Audits: Conducts periodic audits of shop tools to verify presence, condition, and calibration status
