About Pangea Propulsion:
We are a company dedicated to developing advanced propulsion systems for the space industry based on three key principles: high efficiency, sustainability, and reusability. We are revolutionizing the space industry with ground-breaking innovations that allow us to offer the best performance to cost propulsion systems.
Our goal is to be the propulsion provider for the next generation of spacecraft, which is essential to meet demands and compete in the booming space market of the next decade.
We are a passionate, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space propulsion technology.
We have already made history by successfully testing the world's first 3D-printed Methalox Aerospike engine, marking a significant milestone for the space industry.
We are looking for talented professionals to join our international teams in Barcelona and Toulouse. We want to be a key player in improving diversity in the Aerospace sector as, in Pangea, we believe that diversity (gender, age, race, sexual orientation, beliefs, disability, culture, etc.) is a key to success. Within Pangea, everyone can grow with the same opportunities. We encourage you to apply. Individually we are different, but together we are an amazing team!
We are looking for a Systems Engineer in Barcelona.
About the role:
As lead systems engineer you will work together with the rest of the Systems Department at Pangea Propulsion to coordinate the systems engineering efforts of a particular propulsion system in development, focusing on ensuring that the resulting system design and its operations are compliant with the customers’ requirements and that the design is complete, functional end-to-end, coherent, performant, and properly documented.
You would be the direct support of the Product Owner and the main “information hub” and central elaborator in regard to the system design.
Together with the rest of the Systems Department and the Product Owner you would track and manage the system configuration evolution, make top-level decisions in regard to preferred system solutions, perform trade-offs between possible design options, set design constraints based on circumstances and experience, define the engine’s concept of operations, structure and define the engine’s requirements (including e.g. RAMS, Operational Requirements, Environmental Requirements, Interfaces, etc.) and ensure compliance to said requirements, define the engine’s functional tree and product tree, structure the engine project’s activity matrix, define and analyze applicable sizing cases, etc. As lead systems engineer your work will naturally be very broad, touching on many different topics and disciplines including system architecture, operations, logistics, reliability and safety, etc.
You will work closely together with your colleagues in the Systems Department and also with the Product Owner, as well as with the Fluidics and Mechanical Departments. In general, you would be expected to work with all departments and disciplines within Pangea at some point, to maintain a holistic view of the entire system. You should be comfortable working with large teams and taking independent initiatives to e.g. gather necessary inputs from internal and external colleagues, initiate needed activities or analyses, and to move the overall project forward towards completion. You should ideally have previous experience in systems engineering of similar products. Deep experience and understanding of rocket engines is highly meritorious.
Key Responsibilities:
· Own and manage overall system architecture, logic, and functional coherence.
· Define, manage, and validate system requirements, interfaces, and CONOPS.
· Lead system-level trade-offs, constraints, and design decisions.
· Maintain configuration, system budgets (mass, power, etc.), and margin policies.
· Ensure integration and interface consistency across subsystems.
· Develop and maintain MBSE models, functional trees, and product structure.
· Ensure RAMS integration, ECSS compliance, and verification traceability.
· Define V&V, AIT, and systems engineering plans.
· Oversee system documentation (SRD, DDF, DJF, user manual).
· Manage technical risks and support design reviews.
· Support the coordination and preparation of design reviews and participate in said reviews as a lead figure together with the Product Owner.
· Collaborate across all engineering teams and support the Product Owner.
· Balance visionary system design with practical program execution, ensuring that reliability, performance, and sustainability goals are met.
What you need to be successful:
· Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or related field
· 3 years or more experience of systems engineering for aerospace vehicles or rocket propulsion, or a related field
· Experience in the implementation of ECSS standards or other relevant standards
· Well-rounded understanding of the relevant disciplines in the field of rocket propulsion
· Experience working as a leading role in large teams or complex projects
· Strong ownership, initiative, and ability to work under pressure
· Fluent in English
Other useful skills:
· In-depth and hands-on knowledge of space system architectures, subsystems, and operational environments, especially for rocket engines or launch vehicle hardware.
