About Pangea Propulsion
We are a company dedicated to developing advanced propulsion systems for the space industry based on three key principles: high efficiency, sustainability, and reusability. We are revolutionizing the space industry with ground-breaking innovations that allow us to offer the best performance to cost propulsion systems.
Our goal is to be the propulsion provider for the next generation of spacecraft, which is essential to meet demands and compete in the booming space market of the next decade.
We are a passionate, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space propulsion technology.
We have already made history by successfully testing the world's first 3D-printed Methalox Aerospike engine, marking a significant milestone for the space industry.
We are looking for talented professionals to join our international teams in Barcelona and Toulouse. We want to be a key player in improving diversity in the Aerospace sector as, in Pangea, we believe that diversity (gender, age, race, sexual orientation, beliefs, disability, culture, etc.) is a key to success. Within Pangea, everyone can grow with the same opportunities. We encourage you to apply. Individually we are different, but together we are an amazing team!
About the role
We are looking for an Additive Manufacturing Engineer specialized in Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (LP-DED) to take ownership of the complete DED manufacturing process, from toolpath programming to final component delivery.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer capable of combining strong process engineering knowledge, manufacturing discipline, and a quality-first mindset to ensure repeatable and reliable production.
You will be based in Barcelona, working closely with multidisciplinary teams involved in propulsion system development and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end DED manufacturing workflow, from CAD preparation to deposition, post-processing, inspection, and final delivery.
Develop and optimize DED toolpaths and laser CAM programs (G-code or equivalent) for multi-axis CNC DED systems.
Define and optimize process parameters (laser power, travel speed, powder feed rate, overlap, layer height, etc.) to improve process stability, surface quality, and repeatability.
Implement strategies for thermal management and distortion control during long builds and complex geometries.
Collaborate closely with machining teams to define machining allowances, datums, and manufacturable deposition strategies.
Coordinate or execute post-processing operations, including cleaning, heat treatment, stress relief, or HIP when required.
Define and implement inspection plans, ensuring dimensional accuracy, surface integrity, and traceability.
Diagnose and resolve typical DED process defects such as porosity, cracking, distortion, or lack of fusion.
Ensure safe handling of metal powders and compliance with EHS standards for laser and additive manufacturing processes.
Work with internal teams and external suppliers for heat treatments, inspections, and material testing.
What you need to be successful
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Hands-on industrial experience with Laser Powder DED / LMD additive manufacturing processes.
-
Strong understanding of:
DED process physics and parameter optimization
thermal behavior and distortion control
machining allowances and fixturing strategies
inspection workflows and manufacturing traceability
Experience managing manufacturing processes end-to-end in an industrial environment.
Other useful skills
Experience with multi-axis CNC DED platforms.
Experience in aerospace, space, or other regulated industries.
Familiarity with DED CAM software (Mastercam or equivalent).
Experience with 3D scanning, inspection tools, or NDT methods.
Experience working with Inconel alloys, titanium alloys, or stainless steels.
Not hitting every requirement? Research suggests that some people ten do hesitate when it comes to job applications if they don't meet all the desired qualifications. Here at Pangea Aerospace, we're committed to fostering a workplace that values diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity. So, if you're enthusiastic about this role but your prior experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification mentioned in the job description, we still strongly encourage you to apply. You might just be the ideal candidate for this position or other opportunities within our organization.
