About Pangea Aerospace:

We are a company dedicated to developing advanced propulsion systems for the space industry based on three key principles: high efficiency, sustainability, and reusability. We are revolutionizing the space industry with ground-breaking innovations that allow us to offer the best performance to cost propulsion systems.

Our goal is to be the propulsion provider for the next generation of spacecraft, which are essential to meet the demands and compete in the booming space market of the next decade.

We are a passionate, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space propulsion technology.

We have already made history by successfully testing the world's first 3D-printed Methalox Aerospike engine, marking a significant milestone for the space industry.

We are looking for talented professionals to join our international team in Barcelona and Toulouse. We want to be a key player in improving diversity in the Aerospace sector as, in Pangea, we believe that diversity (gender, age, race, sexual orientation, beliefs, disability, culture, etc.) is a key to success. Within Pangea, everyone can grow with the same opportunities. We encourage you to apply. Individually we are different, but together we are an amazing team!

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer in Barcelona.

About the job:

In the Systems Department, you will take the role of lead systems engineer for the ARCOS aerospike engine, involving multiple different concurrent projects for the development of the engine’s various subsystems. Overall, you will be responsible of building the baseline timeline for the technical work to be done, coordinate and harmonize all the disciplines and subsystem developments, manage the activities input and output, track and manage the configuration evolution, as well as making top-level decisions in regard to the preferred system solutions, trade-offs between possible options, setting design constraints based on circumstances and experience, etc. Therefore, you must be completely comfortable with working independently and taking independent decisions, and you should have some experience and know-how of similar projects from the past that you can bring to the company. You will have to define your own work to a large degree.

Furthermore, and more specifically, you will need to manage the definition of the engine’s concept of operations, the structuring and definition of the engine’s requirements (including e.g. RAMS, Operational Requirements, Environmental Requirements, Interfaces, etc.) and ensuring their compliance, the performing of relevant system level trade-offs and definition of the engine’s top-level architecture, creation of the engine’s functional tree and refinements of the product tree, the structuring of the engine project’s activity matrix, configuration management, definition and analyses of sizing cases, etc.

You will work closely together with your colleagues in the Systems Department and also with the Technical Coordinator of the company and the Project Manager for the ARCOS project, as well as with the Propulsion and Mechanical Departments. In general, you will be expected to work with all departments and disciplines within Pangea at some point, to maintain a holistic view of the entire system. You should be comfortable working with large teams and taking independent initiatives to e.g. gather necessary inputs from internal and external colleagues, initiate needed activities or analyses, and to move the overall project forward towards completion. A few years of relevant experience working with hardware-based aerospace projects and with standards such as e.g. ECSS is expected. Deep experience and understanding of rocket engines is also highly meritorious. You will be expected to interface and work together with applicable external partners, national government agencies, as well as the European Space Agency.

Qualifications and skills:

Education: Master’s in Aerospace Engineering or a related field

Experience: 3+ years of experience of systems engineering for aerospace vehicles or rocket propulsion, or a related field

Technical skills:

  • Experience in the implementation of ECSS standards or other relevant standards
  • Well-rounded understanding of the relevant disciplines in the field of rocket propulsion
  • Experience working as a leading role in large teams or complex projects

Other good to have technical skills:

  • Hands-on and in-depth experience with development of rocket engines or launch vehicle hardware
  • Experience in the use of Collaborative Engineering tools (i.e. Valispace, CDP4, OCDT)

Soft skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically about complex systems.
  • Ability to take responsibility and manage stress
  • Excellent communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration and reporting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving project requirements.
