The Mission

Munich-based OroraTech is developing a constellation of nano-satellites with thermal infrared cameras for automated wildfire detection, severe weather warnings and many other applications. After our FOREST-1 mission (launched in Jan. 2022) and FOREST-2 (launch in June 2023), the next step is to scale the production, launch the first constellation plane of 8 systems and develop our own satellite platform.
We are looking for talented engineers to support us with the design and testing of our newly developed satellite platform. They will be joining a very motivated and highly enthusiastic team of experts in the fields of mechanical, optics, electronics, spacecraft, and software engineering.

What you’ll be doing

As an Satellite ADCS Engineer you will:

  • Be responsible for Attitude Determination and Control Systems (ADCS) on board OroraTech’s satellites.

  • Own ADCS relevant decisions in the satellite design process.

  • Evaluating ADCS systems to ensure their compatibility and performance given the requirements for the mission.

  • Defining a concept of operations together with the Systems Engineering team to enable platform and payload operations.

  • Develop tools to assist mission controllers evaluate satellite performance and plan satellite manoeuvres in space.

  • Performing both Hardware and Software In The Loop simulations.

  • Developing and automating integration tests focusing on the health of the ADCS.

  • Evaluating ADCS system performance and performing in-space calibrations to improve this performance.

  • Developing interface software for ADCSs in C/C++ and integrating it with the platform software.

  • Debugging development hardware and tools.

  • Working together in a talented team of embedded software engineers with different specialisations and backgrounds

Relevant Skills

  • Previous experience integrating ADCS including design, software interfacing and testing.

  • Practical experience working with space hardware and software systems.

  • Understanding of orbit reference frames, orbit propagators, magnetic field models and the relevant physical effects affecting satellites in LEO.

  • Understanding the complexity of testing a dynamic system like an ADCS in a lab environment.

  • Knowledge of spacecraft ADCS components like IMUs, Sun sensors, Star Trackers etc.

  • Knowledge of commonly used ADCS algorithms like Kalman filters.

  • Intermediate programming skills required in C/C++, Python.

  • Experienced in working with linux based systems and using git, bash and ssh.

  • Business-level english
