POSITION TITLE: Data Scientist: Weather and Satellite Applications
REPORTS TO: Chief Product Officer, Senior Data Scientist
LOCATION: Hybrid/In-office in Boulder, Colorado, 3 days per week minimum requirement for in-office work.

- Research, develop, and apply ML techniques to satellite and weather data products to support Weather Stream’s growing product development requirements.
- Contribute to Weather Stream’s internal toolsets to support data science and refinement of models.
- Support project ideation and proposal writing in response to opportunities from federal and commercial customers.
- Support ML-focused algorithm development and help manage associated software solutions.
- Collaborate with the broader products team to identify suitable ML models and dataset requirements.
- Evaluating, monitoring, and refining the performance of ML models.
- Develop containerized environments to enable deployment of software and work with DevOps engineers to deploy solutions to operations.
- Stay current with the latest developments in ML applications for weather and climate science and promote suitable approaches within the product development process.
QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Demonstrable experience using Python for data handling and processing, including experience with data science and management libraries such as xarray/pandas, ideally with dask.
- Use of common data science/ML libraries for developing models, primarily PyTorch or similar.
- Applied research applying advanced ML techniques to real-world geospatial problems.
- Experience of applying common data science algorithms, such as clustering, PCA, classification, and regression.
- Experience with zarr, hdf5, netcdf, GRIB, and/or geotiff file formats for data storage.
- Demonstrable experience with geospatial data analysis and visualization.
- An exposure to and understanding of MLWP models or satellite applications is a benefit but not required.
- Working knowledge of version control software such as git.
- Excellent communicator both verbally and written
- Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Masters degree or above in applied machine learning, meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related physical science, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 2+ years of work experience, including in an academic setting. If there is no industry experience, please highlight how you have completed at least one in-depth applied Machine Learning project that ties in to geospatial/satellite data analysis.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• This is primarily a software development role, so employee must be able to sit/stand at a desk for their workday.
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS WORKED
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday,
9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may require long hours and weekend work.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area, overnight or international travel may be expected.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
We value our employees’ time and e5orts. Our commitment to your success is enhanced by our competitive salary of $105,000 - 120,000, with total compensation including stock options and benefits, plus potential to earn an annual bonus and merit increase.
