LabView Developer

Orbion is seeking a LabView Developer to develop control software for test stands, vacuum facilities, and support equipment. The engineer will work cross-functionally with R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing to design and implement individual software for test facilities and to incorporate those facilities into Orbion’s production line. Additionally, the engineer will support R&D and engineering with rapid prototype and test of new products. Leverage your software, electrical, and test skills to drive innovation and quality!

Responsibilities:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand test system requirements
  • Develop software to automate manufacturing and test operations
  • Streamline, improve, and automate processes to meet production demands
  • Develop and improve data processing and storage pipelines
  • Design and implement in-vacuum test stands such as thrust stands and robotic plasma probe diagnostics
  • Design and integrate electronic support equipment such as power supplies and data acquisition systems
  • Assist with rapid prototyping of new space hardware concepts (Hall effect thrusters, cathodes, spacecraft buses, etc.)
  • Document software, procedures, and qualification plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software and/or Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent training
  • 2 or more years of experience in software development and automation in an aerospace or similar environment
  • Demonstrated ability to support software teams in the development of manufacturing tests and validation automation.
  • Experience with Python and NI LabVIEW programming languages.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Keen troubleshooting abilities
  • Position is on-site in Houghton, MI
  • Must meet definition of US Person

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical writing experience
  • Previous experience on engineering teams in the aerospace, medical, and/or defense industries
  • Experience with software development environments (e.g. Eclipse, Visual Studio, NI LabView)
  • Experience with DevOps (continuous integration/deployment)
  • Experience with SQL or other database programming
  • Ability to rework and repair various electrical and electromechanical systems and components/assemblies
  • Compensation will be scaled to the candidate’s skills and experience
