Why You’ll Love Working Here

The Component Engineer is responsible for the selection, qualification and lifecycle management of electronic/electromechanical components used in Orbcomm products. This role ensures components meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and supply continuity while partnering with design engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and suppliers to reduce risk and improve time-to-market and ensure there are no gaps in production.

This role is based out of our Hyderabad, India office. We operate in a hybrid work environment, requiring a minimum of three (3) days per week onsite, with the option to work remotely for up to two (2) days per week.

What You’ll Do

Lifecycle, Obsolescence & Risk

  • Monitor component lifecycle status (active, NRND, EOL) and maintain obsolescence dashboards.
  • Drive redesign plans, last-time-buys, and cross-qualification as needed.
  • Perform supply risk and geopolitical risk screening (single-source exposure, lead time volatility, allocation risk).

Component Selection & Technical Ownership

  • Own the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and Approved Parts List (APL) strategy for assigned component families (e.g., e.g., passives, semiconductors, connectors, etc.).
  • Locate and recommend components that meet electrical(Baseband and RF), mechanical, environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for at risk components.
  • Create and maintain component specifications, parametric requirements, and preferred part standards.

Qualification & Reliability

  • Plan and execute component qualification activities (e.g., thermal cycling, HALT/HASS support, vibration, humidity, solderability, ESD/latency risk, accelerated aging as relevant).
  • Review supplier reliability data (FIT, MTBF, failure rate models) and define derating and application guidelines.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and material regulations such as RoHS/REACH, conflict minerals reporting (if applicable), and customer requirements.
  • Maintain traceable documentation: qualification reports, change impact assessment costs, datasheet archives.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with Manufacturing/Test/Quality to resolve yield issues and incoming inspection anomalies.
  • Support cost-down initiatives (value engineering) without compromising reliability.
  • Provide technical input to BOM health reviews and NPI readiness gates and wherever possible provide 2nd source alternatives for supply chain flexibility and continuity of supply.

Who You Are

You’re a strategic thinker with a knack for operational excellence, ready to tackle multiple priorities with agility and grace. If you have:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years in component engineering, hardware engineering, electronics manufacturing, supplier quality, or reliability engineering (adjust by level below).
  • Working knowledge of component types, datasheets, and application constraints (ratings, tolerances, thermal/EMI considerations, derating).
  • Experience with PCN/PDN/EOL workflows and mitigation planning.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management tools (such as Agile PLM) and component analytics tools (such as Silicon Expert)
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.
  • Commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.

Key Skills

  • Strong technical judgment and ability to interpret datasheets and reliability data.
  • Supplier management and negotiation support (technical, not commercial).
  • Structured problem solving and clear writtenas well as spokencommunication.
