The Zuora Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and evolving the company’s subscription billing architecture on the Zuora platform. This role serves as the technical and functional authority for Zuora, ensuring scalable, reliable, and compliant billing solutions that support current operations and long-term business growth.

The Zuora Architect partners closely with Finance, Billing, Product, Sales Operations, and Engineering teams to define system strategy, design end-to-end subscription and revenue workflows, and lead complex implementations and integrations. This role requires deep Zuora expertise, strong systems-thinking skills, and the ability to translate business strategy into robust platform architecture.

This role is based out of our Hyderabad, India office. We operate in a hybrid work environment, requiring a minimum of three (3) days per week onsite, with the option to work remotely for up to two (2) days per week.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the overall Zuora platform architecture, including Billing, Payments, CPQ, Revenue, and integrations.
  • Design scalable and flexible subscription billing models to support new products, pricing strategies, and global expansion.
  • Define and maintain architectural standards, best practices, and governance for Zuora configurations.
  • Lead solution design for complex initiatives such as new product launches, billing transformations, and M&A integrations.
  • Translate business requirements into end-to-end system designs across Zuora and connected systems (CRM, ERP, data platforms).
  • Oversee product catalog structure, rate plan strategy, billing rules, taxation, and invoice design.
  • Partner with Finance and Revenue teams to align billing architecture with revenue recognition requirements (ASC 606).
  • Design and review integrations between Zuora and upstream/downstream systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Billing Specialists and Analysts.
  • Document architecture decisions, system dependencies, and future roadmap items.

  • Platform Reliability & Accuracy– Maintain high billing and invoicing accuracy with minimal defects, rework, or revenue leakage resulting from Zuora configuration or integrations.
  • Subscription & Pricing Enablement– Enable timely launch of new products, pricing models, and packaging strategies by delivering scalable and reusable Zuora designs that meet business requirements.
  • Architecture Quality & Scalability– Ensure Zuora architecture supports business growth through reduced configuration complexity, improved performance, and adherence to defined architectural standards.
  • Revenue & Finance Alignment– Support compliant revenue recognition and financial close processes by aligning Zuora billing design with Finance and Revenue Accounting requirements (e.g., ASC 606).
  • Integration Stability –Maintain stable, well‑governed integrations between Zuora and upstream/downstream systems, minimizing integration failures and manual workarounds.
  • Time‑to‑Market for Initiatives –Reduce time to deliver complex initiatives (product launches, billing transformations, M&A integrations) through effective architectural planning and governance.
  • Operational Efficiency– Decrease manual billing operations and exceptions by improving automation, configurability, and reuse within the Zuora platform.
  • Change Quality & Risk Management –Minimize production issues caused by platform changes through strong design reviews, impact analysis, and governance practices.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer –Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date architecture documentation, enabling operational teams to support, extend, and troubleshoot the platform effectively.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction –Achieve high satisfaction ratings from Finance, Product, Sales Operations, and Engineering stakeholders regarding Zuora solution design and delivery.

Who You Are

  • 8–12+ years of experience in enterprise billing or financial systems.
  • 5–7+ years of deep experience with the Zuora platform.
  • Proven experience as a solution or technical architect in SaaS environments.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.
  • Commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading or governing large‑scale Zuora implementations in complex, global SaaS environments.
  • Deep understanding of subscription lifecycle management, recurring revenue models, and usage‑based pricing.
  • Hands‑on experience with Zuora CPQ, Zuora Revenue, and advanced product catalog design.
  • Strong knowledge of revenue recognition principles and operational alignment with ASC 606.
  • Experience integrating Zuora with enterprise systems such as Salesforce, ERP platforms (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle), and data warehouses.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional design discussions and influence architectural decisions across Finance, Product, Sales Operations, and Engineering.
  • Experience supporting billing transformations, pricing modernization initiatives, or M&A system integrations.
  • Ability to balance architectural governance with agile delivery in fast‑moving business environments.
  • Prior experience mentoring or guiding billing analysts, solution designers, or junior architects.
  • Zuora certifications or formal training (Billing, CPQ, or Revenue) preferred.
