Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the VP, Tax will be responsible for leading a high-performing team of tax professionals. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of building dynamic teams and is a creative-thinking, problem-solver, teacher, learner, and leader of people. This role is highly cross-functional and success is dependent on the ability to build successful relationships within Tax and the broader company and will require a deep understanding of our products, business model, and financial results. Lastly, we require a candidate who has a beginner’s mindset.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key advisor to the CAO and leader of the Tax organization.

  • Proactively leads and develops team members by creating a positive environment where they are challenged, motivated, and groomed for advancement.

  • Builds and strengthens relationships with people across the Company to ensure the Tax Department is effectively serving our business partners.

  • Responsible for all matters related to federal, state, local, and international income taxes, sales & use tax, and property tax (including, escheatment).

  • Oversees financial reporting of the company’s tax liabilities in accordance with ASC 740, including approval of quarterly and annual financial statements footnote disclosures.

  • Produces quarterly updates to the executive management on the company’s tax situation, including effective tax rate projections, cash tax projections, and legislative developments.

  • Responsible for all tax planning related to taxable and tax-deferred mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs.

  • Manages outside tax service providers and counsel related to tax planning, compliance, and controversies projects.

  • Oversight of income tax and indirect tax audits and support the development of our audit program.

  • Responsible for all indirect tax compliance, including evaluating the financial, system, and operational considerations for new compliance obligations.

  • Provide financial, risk, and operational advice to management on new and proposed tax legislation impacting the company and any new proposed business ventures.

  • Responsible for all sales and property tax planning initiatives related to wireless capex spend.

Skills, Experience And Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in corporate tax.

  • CPA and Big 4 experience preferred.

  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex tax issues and to

  • communicate them in a clear and succinct manner.

  • JD or Master in Taxation a plus.

  • Internal

  • SaaS industry, M&A, and international experience a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Strategies and Financial Reporting

  • Develop and implement global tax strategies that are aligned with the company's overall business objectives and financial goals.

  • Identify and implement opportunities for tax optimization and savings while maintaining a prudent risk profile.

  • Provide expert advice on the tax implications of all major business decisions, including mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and new market entries.

  • Manage and ensure the accuracy of the tax provision and related disclosures in the company’s financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., ASC 740).

  • Establish and maintain internal controls to mitigate tax risks and ensure adherence to all regulations.

  • Serve as the primary contact for all tax authorities and manage all aspects of tax audits and examinations. Develop and execute strategies to effectively resolve tax controversies and disputes.

Transfer Pricing & Tax Compliance

  • Manage and ensure the timely preparation and filing of all corporate tax returns (federal, state, local, and foreign), including income tax, sales/use tax, and VAT/GST.

  • Oversee all international tax matters, including foreign tax issues, foreign tax credits, and permanent establishment risks.

  • Manage the company’s global transfer pricing policies and documentation to ensure compliance across all jurisdictions.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Effectively communicate complex tax issues and recommendations to senior management and the Board.

  • Stay abreast of changing tax legislation, regulations, and case law in all relevant jurisdictions and proactively assess their impact on the company.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the internal tax team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and compliance.

  • Manage relationships with and the scope of work for external tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel.

Qualifications


Experience

  • A minimum of 15+ years of progressive tax experience in a public accounting firm and/or a large multinational corporate environment.

  • At least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing a significant tax function.

  • Experience in process improvements and transformation, is a must

  • SaaS industry experience a plus

Technical Skills

  • Deep and current expertise in federal, state, and international tax laws (including corporate tax, VAT/GST, and transfer pricing).

  • Strong knowledge of tax accounting (ASC 740) for income taxes.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities.

  • Proven leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders.

Education & Certification

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. A Master's degree in Taxation (MST) or a Juris Doctor (JD) is highly preferred.

  • Professional Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional certification (e.g., Chartered Tax Adviser, CA) is required
