Job Summary:
As a Technical Principal II within the Strategic Systems advanced technology organization, you will provide expert-level technical oversight and specialized support to the company’s technology programs. While maintaining high-level customer and industry relationships, your primary focus is to lead and supervise engineering teams in the execution of complex development projects. You will serve as the lead technical reviewer to evaluate and critique propulsion system designs, assess programmatic risks, and ensure that all advanced propulsion architectures align with mission-critical requirements. By collaborating with program management, you will define project scope and drive the technical innovation necessary to grow market share and develop new products.
Responsibilities:
- Engineering Leadership (75%): Serve as Chief Engineer or Technical Lead on numerous development programs, applying deep experience to evaluate propulsion system design and assess programmatic risks.
- Technical Marketing (25%): Develop and maintain relationships with customer executives and program managers to understand requirements and present technical solutions.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and maintain advanced technology road maps, identifying technology gaps and creating risk mitigation plans to meet future customer needs.
- Proposal Development: Lead white paper and proposal efforts, utilizing winning strategies and novel approaches to secure future contracts.
- Technical Review: Perform as the lead technical reviewer on program reviews and conduct periodic customer discussions to ensure all technical requirements and expectations are met.
- Architecture Development: Conduct advanced propulsion architecture development by applying innovative company technologies to meet customer requirements.
- Mentorship & Delegation: Manage and mentor junior staff, delegating tasks as needed and reporting program status to the program office.
- Industry Engagement: Represent the company at industry meetings and conferences, occasionally publishing work performed under various contracts.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: 15+ years of Controllable Solid Propulsion industry experience, with at least 10 years in a Chief Engineer or Lead Systems/Mechanical Engineer.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Communication: Excellent technical writing and verbal presentation skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex system capabilities to new customers.
- Leadership: Experienced in leading technical teams on fast-paced development programs within a highly collaborative environment.
- Travel: Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry Recognition: Recognized as a solid rocket propulsion expert by Prime missile integrators.
- Advanced Education: Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline (equivalent experience may also be considered).
- Relationship Management: Proven track record in meeting and interacting with prime missile customers and developing new customer relationships.

The salary range represents the base salary range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors. Those include but are not limited to location, experience, and performance.
