Since 2009, Nanoracks has created and expanded new in-space markets and has been the world leader for ushering in a new era of in-space services. Currently, Nanoracks is working to build commercial space stations (“Outposts”) from the spent upper stages of launch vehicles in orbit. This technology will enable spent upper stages to be used as crewed and un-crewed space stations for various purposes and customers—both civil and commercial.

Softgoods Mentor - NASA HUNCH

Overview:

The NASA HUNCH Softgoods Mentor has responsibility for supporting and leading the High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware (HUNCH) project in a designated region. The NASA HUNCH program provides an innovative, strategic, education partnership pairing NASA’s unique capabilities and experience with the ingenuity of high school and intermediate students in creating authentic hardware and softgoods for NASA to use in support of missions and research.

The NASA HUNCH Softgoods Mentor will work with the NASA HUNCH Projects Manager and the HUNCH technical team to support high school students and teachers at partner schools in the successful fabrication and processing of aerospace Softgoods for NASA. Support required by the NASA HUNCH Softgoods Mentor-SME includes providing technical training and troubleshooting to participating teachers on a regular basis.

Essential Duties:

  • Work in a safe and organized manor. Maintain and promote a safe, clean and organized work area at all times.
  • Assist in and support the fabrication and assembly of Flight Softgoods in compliance with NASA requirements and standards.
  • Perform fabrication, processing, inspection, quality assurance and documentation.
  • Create and maintain quality assurance records and documentation as required.
  • Perform raw material tracking and traceability control.
  • Assist and mentor high school students and teachers in aerospace assembly techniques and requirements.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other NASA organizations and stakeholders to meet all project commitments.
  • Lead and prioritize tasks required for NASA HUNCH Softgoods Specialists and mentors
  • Manage HUNCH Softgoods projects to ensure quality and timely delivery
  • Coordinate Softgoods project needs with HUNCH team members
  • Support management and tracking of all projects and inventory.
  • Estimate cost and delivery schedules ROMs (Rough Order of Magnitude) for project requests and as requested by Projects Manager.
  • Ensure all required equipment and tooling is available and properly maintained.
  • Provide weekly project status report to Projects Manager.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Projects Manager

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Processing and assembly of NASA Space Flight Softgoods in compliance with NASA requirements and standards
  • Project management and scheduling
  • Space Flight Softgoods fabrication, processing and assembly in compliance with NASA requirements and standards
  • Fabrication, dimensional inspection drawings and NASA specifications
  • Adaptable/flexible and ability to handle multiple tasks in a high paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service, presentation and personal
  • Exceptional team environment and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office
