About the Job
Mission Control is seeking a student for co-op placement on our Missions Team for the upcoming work term. As a young company at the intersection of technology development and the flourishing NewSpace market, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about AI/Machine Learning, Space Exploration and Robotics. As part of the team, you will be exposed to a wide variety of tasks, so applicants must be self-starters, unafraid of learning something new and have demonstrated experience in solving complex problems.
The Missions Software Team is responsible for building mission-critical software, as well as developing and maintaining software for the company’s robots that run in the Moonyard and the Orbital Autonomy lab. As part of the Missions Software Team, you will get the opportunity to contribute to the team that designs, builds, and delivers reliable robotic systems for Mission Operations.
Job Responsibilities
Your work may include:
- Designing and building software for mission critical applications, specifically for integration with robotic assets such as rovers, robotic arms, and sensor hardware
- Working closely with stakeholders to rapidly prototype and iterate on software features for user interfaces
- Working on simulation software for robotic assets using ROS and Gazebo
- Leading operations support activities for analog deployments and demonstrations
- Providing troubleshooting support and conducting end-to-end integration testing for robots in the company's Moonyard and Orbital Autonomy Lab
- Participating in requirements analysis and conceptual design activities with other members of the engineering team
About you:
Required Skills and Experience:
- Currently completing a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline
- Are eligible for security clearance in Canada (i.e. are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident)
- Comfortable working with at least one programming language – preferably C++, Python, or TypeScript
- Enjoy working on challenging problems and consider yourself a team player with a willingness to help others
- Knowledge of version control (such as git) and common Linux commands
Assets:
- Demonstrated experience in space or robotics through involvement in extracurriculars or student design teams
- Experience with container technologies such as Docker/Kubernetes for AWS in operational environments
- Demonstrated deep expertise or understanding of software engineering principles in one or more programming languages
- Prior experience with simulation software such as Gazebo
Special Comments
- Security: Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a security clearance in Canada at the reliability status level (and potentially at the higher levels) and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
- Due to the security clearance required for Mission Control's facility, only Canadian Citizen's and Permanent Residents are eligible at this time.
Location
The workplace for this position will be Mission Control's headquarters, which is located near the Bayview Train Station. Applicants should be able to commute to the workplace, however due to our commitment to the health & safety of our employees there will be some flexibility, and remote work may be possible on occasion. There may be some required travel to remote testing sites, including the Canadian Space Agency.
