We are now also designing the next generation of earth imaging satellites, proliferated LEO constellations, and also partnering with NASA for its return to the moon. Maxar is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to staff these programs, and particular expertise is required in Power sub-systems. You will apply systems engineering discipline on your program by converting mission needs into an appropriate design throughout the product lifecycle.

We are currently seeking candidates with broad experiences in space-based engineering primarily with a strong foundation in Power sub-systems. Space-based experience is a plus.

It is preferred the candidate be located locally to perform work onsite in our Palo Alto, California office, however, remote candidates within the US will also be considered.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support the development of the technical baseline to include requirements, architecture, interfaces, system performance and technical roadmap with applied expertise in the Power sub-systems
  • Perform system analysis and mission level trades
  • Perform development of system CONOPS and Use Cases
  • Generate requirements & verification/validation management plans, including requirements allocation, derivation, decomposition, and traceability to sub-systems and system elements
  • Execute system V&V Plan which includes software
  • Establish technical dependencies on customer, systems, subsystems and coordinate collaboration across individuals and teams as appropriate
  • Partner with engineering leads to capture & manage technical risks including contributor & stakeholder risk management
  • Solve integrated spacecraft issues: work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and cross functional teams to close on all systems issues and trades
  • Risk Management: Identify risks and opportunities in a design, perform trade studies, and identify/implement mitigation plans
  • Drive Spacecraft testing: Support test plans and methodology development, and establish verification practices, and review and approve verification test results and artifacts

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience. A Master's degree may be considered in lieu of two years of professional related experience
  • Systems Engineering experience in Power sub-systems
  • Professional written and verbal communication presentation skills
  • Experience with any requirements management systems (i.e. DOORS, JAMA, etc.)
  • Proficiency in MS-Office Suite including Teams, Project, and Visio

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in a special field of Engineering or Science
  • Experience in sub-system testing and qualification
  • Understanding of spacecraft design and product life cycle
  • Experience with satellites and satellite industry, including government civil or defense and intelligence programs
  • Experience in designing system behavior for a Power sub-system
  • Systems Engineering experience across interacting hardware and software subsystems
  • Experience in agile development methodologies
  • Experience in systems modeling, simulation, & system architectures

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$113,000.00 - $189,000.00 annually.
