Maxar Space Systems is seeking a Principal ACS Engineer to apply your knowledge and expertise to the development of Attitude and Controls Systems (ACS) for cutting edge spacecraft for low Earth solutions, complex geosynchronous communications, Earth observation, and beyond Earth science missions. You will be working with our Palo Alto, CA. Space Systems team. While working in Palo Alto is preferred, this position may also be located remotely within the U.S., with travel to the Bay Area as needed.

You'll utilize your experience in applying systems engineering discipline to complex systems and you're familiar with ACS methods, hardware components, and their practical applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, analysis, and verification of satellite attitude control systems (ACS)
  • Coordinate implementation of ACS related FDIR (Failure Detection, Isolation, and Recovery) systems
  • Develop and flow down system and test requirements to flight software, unit design, production, and operations engineers
  • Support cross-functional teams to implement and test control topologies and ACS flight software. Support Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) team tasks
  • Support cross-functional teams to develop and qualify new ACS sensors and actuators
  • Experience with ACS hardware in a development, test or operations environment

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. A Master's degree may be counted as two years of experience
  • Experience in dynamics, feedback control systems, spacecraft attitude control methods, or orbital mechanics
  • Experience with any ACS Hardware in a Development, Test or Operations environment. Practical experience with the hardware and debugging real world issues (i.e.; noise or timing issues).
  • Domestic travel ~4 times a year may be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in guidance, navigation and control systems for spacecraft attitude control
  • Experience in GPS systems and hardware
  • Experience in Mission Operations
  • Expertise in executing the systems engineering discipline, with focus on requirements generation, evaluation, decomposition, synthesis, and flow down

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$120,000.00 - $200,000.00 annually.


Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
