Summary

Maxar is looking for a passionate geospatial analyst who wants to help take our geospatial solutions to the next level. The analyst will be joining a team that is enhancing, improving, and re-purposing an emerging collaborative mapping system. The team is comprised of highly-motivated engineers and analysts who are constantly developing new features and workflows in response to a dynamic/evolving set of customer requirements, while at the same time ensuring the deployment system continues to meet all of the customer’s operational needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience with OpenStreetMap and open source mapping software. The candidate will be assisting with software testing for customer projects surrounding volunteered geographic information (VGI). The candidate will be a power user and tester of internal software and develop workflows for geospatial feature extraction, conflation, and exploitation within an open source environment. Additionally, the candidate will possess excellent research and writing skills and should be comfortable organizing and presenting important information. The candidate will ensure all created correspondence meets quality and material specifications in accordance with customer needs. This position will also assist in the implementation of emerging capabilities, using leading edge technologies to perform analysis and derive information from large geospatial data sets.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate daily with cross-functional internal and external team members and occasionally third party vendors, sometimes as project lead, and other times under other team member leadership
  • Develop and regularly test geospatial feature extraction, conflation, and exploitation workflows
  • Advise, train, mentor, and learn from other team members on technical topics
  • Lead user focused information sharing sessions including brown bag and webinar events
  • Gather requirements, determine scope, and estimate hours needed to develop and deliver custom geospatial analytic solutions to our government customer
  • Identify and implement improvements to system designs and processing methodologies to improve efficiency, scale, reliability, and mitigate operational risk
  • Write procedures, methods, workflow documents and standard operating processes

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Geographic Information Science (GIS) or related field preferred or the equivalent combination education and experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Active/current TS/SCI clearance
  • Minimum 3+ years of work experience in GIS, remote sensing, and/or photogrammetry
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment as an individual contributor on a transparent and agile team
  • Excellent research and writing skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience creating, tagging and extracting OpenStreetMap data is desired.
