Maxar is currently seeking engineering students to join our 2024 summer intern program in San Jose, CA. Software engineering is comprised of various roles that contribute to the development, production, and test of satellites. These roles design, implement, and deliver embedded flight software, provide spacecraft simulators, payload tools, and ground software, and validate software products. In addition, they develop and deliver hardware testbeds to external customers for software development and integrate and customize design and manufacturing engineering applications to create a connected system of services. All roles involve significant collaboration with interdisciplinary teams from multiple subsystems.

This is a requisition for summer of 2024 intern positions with involvement in the design, integration, and test of space systems.

Your Project:

Software engineering interns are needed in the following areas:

  • Software systems engineering

  • Flight software development engineering

  • Simulations development engineering

  • Ground software development engineering

  • Validation and hardware engineering

  • Design and manufacturing software engineering

Placement of individual interns within each of these software roles will be based on intern's background, intern's areas of interest and Maxar need.

What Our Internship Program Offers:

Our 12-week internship program provides students with hands-on experience in a variety of disciplines. From spacecraft design to robotics to data science, Maxar offers opportunities to gain valuable skills and mentorship by working with cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading experts on real missions. In addition to competitive hourly pay, we provide cross-functional lunch-and-learn sessions, networking opportunities, social events and an executive speaker series.

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with completion of 2 years or more, or currently enrolled in a master's degree program in computer, electrical, mechanical or aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, or related discipline

These skills would be amazing:

  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems / distributions

  • Familiarity with the Python or JAVA or C++ programming language

  • Ability to learn quickly and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment

  • Exposure to electrical design technology, processes, and methodology

  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and leadership skills

  • Mathematical skills, particularly numerical analysis methods and linear algebra

  • Debugging and trouble-shooting skills

  • Familiarity with software compilers and other software development tools

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$26.00 - $26.00 hourly.
