Maxar is looking for an enthusiastic Staff DevOps Engineer or Senior Staff DevOps Engineer to join our SecOps DevOps (SODO) team. We are looking for someone energetic and talented to further our mission of delivering high quality software and related tooling to support the development and improvement of the next generation of Maxar’s satellite ground system. This position is hybrid with several days a week on-site with your colleagues in Westminster, CO.

Your Project: The SODO team designs, develops, and supports a wide range of custom and third-party software solutions deployed in AWS, oversees dozens of AWS accounts between commercial and government environments, and guides DevOps best practices. SODO works with hundreds of Maxar engineers to quickly and securely build, test, and release software changes into our various commercial and government AWS environments. This software and adjacent services are critical to the overall velocity of the organization and allows our teams to introduce business value rapidly without sacrificing quality or security.

What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):

  • Support the deployment and management of solutions in AWS
  • Provide Tier-2 level support of the software you and your team own.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary agile team.
  • Follow and establish best practices for coding standards and software architecture.
  • Responsible for the 'ilities': availability, scalability, maintainability, reliability, and securability of our services. We embrace SRE principles.

Minimum requirements for this position:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering field. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience for a Senior Software Engineer
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience for a Staff Software Engineer
  • Proficiency in an object-oriented programming language
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance

Preferred qualifications:

  • Active U.S. Government security clearance
  • General understanding of key AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, EKS, IAM, lambda)
  • Proficiency in Groovy, Python, or Java
  • Prior experience with CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins
  • Prior experience with Git
  • Prior experience with Kubernetes
  • Prior experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, especially Terraform
  • Agile software development lifecycle experience

These skills would be amazing:

  • Holds any AWS certification, or other cloud provider’s certifications
  • Success delivering and maintaining complex software systems in production environments
  • Experience automating infrastructure with zero downtime deployments
  • Intellectually curious, problem solver, never stops learning
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to stay organized while balancing multiple priorities
  • Ability to apply critical thought to problems and come up with solutions that meet Maxar requirements

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$116,000.00 - $194,000.00 annually.


Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
