Maxar is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team. This role can be performed in our Maxar facility located in Herndon, Virginia.

As a Maxar team member, you will have the opportunity to closely support our mission partners, and your work will have a direct impact on mission imperatives. In this role, you'll work closely with other software developers as well our infrastructure and cybersecurity teams leveraging open-source tools to create and maintain a diverse range of applications.

Prototyping and frequent, iterative feedback are core to our delivery approach, anchored by a need to work quickly in support of our missions.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Infrastructure team members focus on several things on any given day. The main objective is monitoring and acting on any outages on the platform to include hardware and software. Engineers also engage with the tenants and users of the Openstack Cloud Platform via chat services, assisting with any requests they may have. When not monitoring the system or engaging with users, a few things you might be working on could be upgrading/deploying applications, R&D on exposing new technology/services within Openstack or reviewing and updating existing documentation for better readability. Lastly, you may also be included in future hardware planning as we're continuing to grow our footprint and our mission partners have no shortage of unique and challenging problems to solve.

The Systems Engineer will:

• Install, configure, and test operating systems, application software, and system management tools
• Assist in the creation of new network platforms and applications to include Juniper
• Support unique computer-based tools
• Prepare and deliver both program and user level documentation
• Provide technical systems support for project activities
• Troubleshoot complex systems
• Interact with members of the technical team leads
• Understand the current system, subsystems, and component specifications and be able to use experience to recommend changes to facilitate efficient and effective development
• Communicate and share expertise within and across the client’s organizational boundaries
• Work both independently and in small groups

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active TS/SCI with ability to obtain a CI polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree in network engineering, information systems, computer engineering, or related technical field.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in network engineering or systems engineering
• Experience establishing standards for information systems procedures.
• Experience troubleshooting both technical and non-technical issues.
• Experience with Information Technology Infrastructure associated with technical projects.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and evaluating alternatives to solve complex problems.

Nice To Have:

• Exposure to Infiband networks and configuration
• Experience with failover network design and recovery
• Juniper Networks Certified Associate, Junos (JNCIA-Junos) Certification, and/or Juniper Network Certified Specialist

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:
