Maxar Space Systems is currently seeking a motivated and skilled Benefits and Leave Specialist to join our team in our offices in Palo Alto, CA. This role may also be performed remotely within the U.S. The Benefits and Leave Specialist will be responsible for administration and support of employee benefits and leave of absence programs. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while serving as a key resource for employees regarding benefits, leave policies, and related processes. The Specialist collaborates closely with HR, payroll, legal, and third-party vendors to ensure accurate and timely service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Process leave of absence requests, maintain accurate leave records, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws (FMLA, ADA, etc.).
  • Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability and retirement plans.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits and leave questions and concerns.
  • Provide guidance to employees, managers, and HR business partners on leave policies and procedures throughout the leave and ADA process.
  • Accurately calculate state leave offsets (e.g., SDI, PFL) and coordinate with payroll to ensure proper pay adjustments during leave periods.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential benefits and leave records in Workday HRIS system, timely process qualifying life events and manual corrections to leave/time-off requests.
  • Support the processing, reconciliation, and auditing of benefit vendor invoices; ensure timely submission of payments in coordination with Finance/Accounts Payable.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to resolve discrepancies or issues related to benefits and leaves.
  • Reconcile employee payroll deductions.
  • Assist with annual open enrollment processes and benefits communication.
  • Support other Total Rewards and/or People initiatives as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, business or related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for the education.
  • 2 years of experience, including: Leave of Absence and Benefits Administration (experience with state leave laws), calculating wage offsets and coordinating with payroll systems, hands-on Workday experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate complicated details in a straightforward and concise manner, while maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism
  • Deep expertise in Excel
  • Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skill
  • A critical eye for attention to detail

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

● The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $59,000.00 - $99,000.00 annually.

● The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $65,000.00 - $109,000.00 annually.

● The base pay for this position within California is: $68,000.00 - $114,000.00 annually.

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
