Are you passionate about space and sustainability? Are you eager to take the next step in your career? Maana Electric is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical / Thermal Engineer with strong background in mechanical design of space-flight hardware to join our growing team. You will work on designing and qualifying equipment for lunar and deep-space environments, contributing to our mission to empower human exploration beyond Earth. Join Maana Electric as a Mechanical Engineer and embark on a thrilling journey into space exploration.

Your mission:

As a vital member of our engineering team, you’ll contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies for In-Situ Resources Utilization (ISRU), turning raw space resources into essential metals and products to boost human space exploration.

Your responsibilities:
  • Design, model, and develop mechanical and thermal systems for space-flight hardware (e.g. structural elements, mechanisms, thermo-mechanical assemblies, deployable systems).
  • Perform thermal and thermo-structural analyses and simulations to ensure operation under lunar/space environment constraints (vacuum, large temperature swings, radiation, etc.).
  • Build and iterate breadboards, prototypes and test articles from design to manufacturing to testing.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (mechanical, thermal, materials science, electronics, systems engineering) across all project phases.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes suitable for space conditions (e.g. vacuum-compatible, cryogenic or high-delta-T tolerant, radiation-resistant).
  • Support assembly, integration and test campaigns (thermal vacuum, thermal cycling, mechanical loads, deployment tests).
  • Assist procurement office in discussions with suppliers.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Space Engineering or related fields.
  • 3+ years of work are required. A PhD in a relevant applied research project may substitute for experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience in designing and building mechanical systems, preferably for space or harsh-environment applications (i.e. lunar or Martian).
  • High proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks is mandatory).
  • Proven competence in thermal and thermo-structural simulation. Experience with thermal simulation tools is strongly desired.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication skills, and fluency in English (verbal and written). Additional languages are a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic, startup-style environment.
Preferably, you’ll also have:
  • 5+ years of experience in space projects (ground or flight), especially in mechanism design, deployment systems or lunar/planetary hardware.
  • Familiarity with thermal simulation tools such as ESATAN‑Thermal and/or COMSOL Multiphysics.
  • Experience with space-qualification standards (e.g. ECSS, NASA GEVS) and working in a formal review process (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.).
  • Experience with mechanical/thermal design for vacuum, cryogenic or extreme temperature cycles.
  • Hands-on experience with breadboards, prototypes or test articles (from assembly to thermal-vacuum and mechanical testing).
