Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Device Platform

The Device Platform is where that intelligence begins: 1M+ IoT devices connect to our MQTT/Kafka and microservices ecosystem, streaming tens of thousands of messages per second. As Senior Manager, you’ll grow exceptional engineering talent and deliver at scale - owning ingestion, command & control, device health, OTA/firmware updates, and device/vehicle lifecycle - so our customers get reliable, real‑time insights.
What You’ll Do
- Develop leaders & teams: mentor senior engineers/tech leads, build leadership depth, and foster a culture of ownership, learning, and craftsmanship.
- Drive strong program execution: convert strategy into clear roadmaps and predictable delivery; manage cross‑team dependencies and outcomes.
- Lead at scale: guide architecture for high‑throughput ingestion (MQTT/Kafka), resilient microservices, and real‑time APIs with robust SLOs/SLAs.
- Elevate engineering excellence: advance testing, observability, incident response, and cost/performance optimization.
- Own outcomes: ensure reliability, latency, data quality, and safety impact meet business goals.
- Partner broadly: collaborate with product, firmware, data and domain teams to accelerate feature velocity and platform evolution.
What You’ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years building scalable backend/distributed systems; 5+ years managing teams and growing senior‑level talent.
- Proven success with cloud‑native microservices and high‑scale streaming/messaging (Kafka, MQTT, or similar).
- Strong program execution: roadmap ownership, delivery predictability, cross‑functional coordination, measurable results.
- Full‑stack experience (modern front‑end + backend services/APIs); comfortable reviewing UI, API, and data contracts end‑to‑end.
- Data strength: streaming pipelines, event/telemetry data models, data quality/observability, and data‑serving patterns.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, real‑time ingestion, resiliency, and operational excellence in public cloud environments.
- Continuous learner who evaluates new tech pragmatically and uplifts team capabilities, excellent communicator and collaborator.
Preferred
- AWS expertise (preferred cloud vendor at Lytx).
- C#/.NET experience.
- IoT/telematics, large device fleets, and OTA/firmware workflows.
- Kubernetes and containerized deployments.

Salary is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is also eligible for an incentive compensation plan. The expected hiring salary for this position is:
