About the Role:
In this role you’ll work directly with the COO to help define how our business runs on a daily basis. We’re looking for highly motivated individuals who are interested in supporting all aspects of a production-oriented company. You are an ideal candidate if you want to work in a fast-paced environment, are excited by complex challenges, are interested in full ownership of tasks, and are willing to tackle any task (large or small). For this role, we are open to varying experience levels and will strongly consider attitude and willingness to work in addition to any relevant background or experience.
What you will do:
- Sourcing: Execute all purchase orders for the company; handle purchases quickly without error. Communicate order status to internal customers and coordinate delivery logistics.
- Supplier Management: Build supplier base as appropriate to support company operations. Responsible for setting up accounts and managing relationships with critical suppliers
- Material Planning and Strategy: Understand and anticipate production needs and source direct materials as needed to stay ahead of consumption. Create a system where Layup can be a fast mover within a slow-moving supply chain
- Inventory Tracking: document and track consumption and maintain critical inventory levels at all times. Analyze usage to inform future sales cost estimates
- Systems: Work with COO to develop procurement, inventory, and sales systems from ground up
- Analytics: Analyze company spend to provide insights on company efficiency. Analyze sales data to gain insights into customer behavior.
- Cost Tracking and Classification: Assist with cost reconciliation and tracking to provide budget updates and benchmark against company long term plan
- Your job will consist of day to day and long term strategic work. Layup is an early stage startup – we wear many hats and there is no task too small for the operations team. We’re looking for team members who are excited by a challenge and willing to jump in on anything. There is nothing outside of an operations job description.
Required:

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, supply chain, or similar discipline
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. This role requires a high level of interaction with both internal and external customers
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills; addresses all work with sense of urgency. Enjoys working on many different tasks in one day
- Acute attention to detail
- Ability to complete projects independently with minimal oversight; takes initiative on all work
- Proficient in Excel
- Interested in working in a production and manufacturing environment
- Position may require extended hours and weekend work
Preferred:
- Engineering background
- Experience with SQL or similar
- Familiarity with ERP, MES, or CRM systems such as Oracle, Netsuite, or similar
Actual base salary will be based on several factors including but not limited to candidate's relevant education, experience, knowledge and skill in the core subject matter of the position as well as relevant peripheral qualifications.
