Kpler's historical and core product is Cargo Tracking. By combining vessel positions with a wide range of proprietary and external data sources, we deliver best-in-class cargo intelligence to the market, including port calls, trades, quantities, products, and more.
The Cargo Models team is responsible for building and operating highly accurate cargo tracking and forecasting models that power Kpler’s live trade intelligence for the global commodity markets. The team owns the quality of these outputs, making it a critical pillar of Kpler’s value proposition.
The Data Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and consistency of Kpler’s cargo models. Acting as a key enabler for the team, the role focuses on monitoring model performance, validating outputs, identifying data quality issues, and driving continuous improvements. Through rigorous analysis and close collaboration with the crew, the Data Analyst helps ensure that Kpler’s cargo intelligence meets the highest standards of accuracy and usability for clients.
Key Responsibilities (Here’s what you will do AND learn to be successful in this role)
- Implement and maintain quantitative (counts, frequency, latency) and qualitative (accuracy, completeness, stability) data quality metrics.
- Design and maintain dashboards, reports, and automated checks to track data quality trends over time using Python, SQL, Streamlit, Dataiku, and related frameworks.
- Detect and alert on anomalies, inconsistencies, and unexpected behavioural patterns in model outputs and underlying data.
- Perform root-cause analysis on data quality issues, distinguishing between data, model, and process-related causes.
- Support the continuous improvement of Cargo Models by providing structured feedback based on observed quality gaps.
- Collaborate with crew members and all stakeholders to share insights and participate in the model evaluation phases.
- Document data quality processes, metrics definitions, and known limitations for internal and external stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
- 3 years+ exp in data analysis, data quality, analytics or data science roles.
- Proven experience working with large, complex datasets and analytical pipelines.
- Experience evaluating or monitoring model outputs in production.
- Strong experience using SQL and Python for data analysis, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Designed and implemented data quality metrics and automated monitoring pipelines.
- Familiar with logging frameworks, BI tools, and data visualization platforms.
- Solid understanding of evaluation metrics to assess data and model performance.
- Bilingual or fluent in English.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of commodities, maritime, logistics or energy market.
- Experience in a data-driven SaaS or intelligence company.
- Exposure to forecasting, classification, or anomaly detection models.
