SUMMARY:

Karman Space & Defense seeking an experienced Bencher Professional. The ideal candidate will have proven industry experience as a Bencher.

As a strong communicator and skilled hands-on Bencher, you will perform benchwork operations to shape, assemble, and finish metal components or products according to specifications and quality standards. You will do so by utilizing a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments to achieve precision and accuracy in their work. Lastly, you will work closely with other members of the manufacturing team to contribute to the overall production process.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Benchwork Operations:

Perform metalworking tasks such as cutting, drilling, milling, grinding, and polishing using hand tools and small machinery.

Assembly:

Assemble metal components or parts according to engineering drawings, blueprints, or work instructions, ensuring proper fit and alignment.

Finishing:

Apply finishing techniques such as sanding, buffing, and painting to achieve desired surface texture, appearance, and corrosion resistance.

Quality Assurance:

Inspect finished products for defects, dimensional accuracy, and adherence to quality standards. Make necessary adjustments or corrections as needed.

Material Handling:

Handle and transport raw materials, workpieces, and finished products safely and efficiently using material handling equipment.

Tool Maintenance:

Maintain and sharpen hand tools, cutting tools, and other equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Safety Compliance:

Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and workplace hazards. Report any safety concerns or incidents to the supervisor.

Documentation:

Record production data, work activities, and quality inspection results accurately and legibly on production logs or inspection reports.

Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with other members of the manufacturing team, including machinists, welders, and inspectors, to achieve production goals and timelines.

Continuous Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency enhancements in benchwork operations. Make recommendations to management for implementation.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in metalworking or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of metal properties, fabrication techniques, and safety practices.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
  • Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
