ispace Europe is seeking, a highly motivated and talented Structural Analysis Engineer to join our team.
Our vision is to expand and sustain humanity’s presence in space by developing a lunar economy built on the resources available on the Moon.
As the regional office of ispace inc., we are creating the first lunar resource exploration service by developing ispace’s next generation rovers that will prospect for lunar water and other resources. We are a small, international team motivated by the challenges of the Lunar Frontier and determined to achieve the company’s vision.
This is a unique opportunity to join a truly fascinating project to explore resources on the Moon. In this role you will join a small international team of engineers and will be primarily involved in the production and verification of our Micro Rovers and Exploration Rovers.
As a Structural Analysis Engineer at ispace, you will focus on the design, analysis, and integration of structural systems for our lunar rovers, flight hardware, and payloads. Using Finite Element Analysis (FEMAP), you will ensure that structural components meet space mission requirements. You’ll work closely with other engineering teams to integrate designs and support testing and verification.
The position is based in Luxembourg and reports to the Software Group Manager and the MD/Engineering Manager (CTO Group). It will closely collaborate with ispace EUROPE’s team members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Structural Design & Analysis: Perform detailed structural development and verification of spacecraft and payload systems. Ensure designs meet mission requirements and are manufacturable. Participate in the review and release process of mechanical engineering drawings.
- Finite Element Modeling (FEM): Use FEMAP for structural modeling and analysis of a wide variety of structural engineering problems, including post-test correlation with real-world data. In particular, perform static and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures to demonstrate structural integrity and strength of metallic and composite materials. Where applicable, justify design solutions analytically by means of hand calculations. Interpret results on the basis of sound engineering judgement, striking the right balance between simplicity and accuracy.
- Testing & Integration: Coordinate mechanical testing and integration activities, ensuring alignment with other engineering teams. Support the preparation of test procedures and configurations. Interpret the results of mechanical test campaigns and assess system behavior and its ability to meet applicable requirements.
- Documentation, Reporting & Standardization: Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, analysis reports, presentations, and verification plans. Support design reviews and ensure compliance with project goals. Contribute to the generation, maintenance and documentation of standardized analytical tools and methodologies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably in the aerospace or space industry.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of FEMAP for structural analysis.
- Basic understanding of AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Testing) processes.
- Familiarity with structural materials used in space systems, such as composites and honeycomb panels.
- Communication Skills: Proficient in English, with good technical writing and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Industry Experience: Background in the aerospace or space industry is preferred.
- Technical Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with ECSS standards and AIT processes used in space missions.
- Personal Qualities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to learning and growth within the role. Ability to present complex concepts in clear and compelling terms.
- This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge space systems, providing a challenging and rewarding career in structural engineering for space exploration.
