Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

If you have experience in network surveillance, telecommunications, and IP network routing, and have 10+ years of experience in the field, then you will be excited about the Senior Manager, Network Surveillance opening with Iridium. As a Senior Manager, Network Surveillance, you’ll be responsible for managing multiple activities and projects, including overseeing Iridium’s monitoring system, trouble ticketing processes, and procedure development, all while ensuring site stability and smooth operations. You will be responsible for determining and managing the team KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), trouble notifications, and procedure development as well as after incident postmortems. You’ll bring a passion for leading and coaching your team, providing technical mentorship, and guiding your peers through challenges while maintaining a high standard of performance in 24x7 operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Foster and develop a highly effective, high-performing 24X7 team that is responsible for all the Iridium network elements under Network Operations
  • Mentor and train your team by performing regular check-ins, discussing career growth opportunities, giving constructive feedback, and managing conflict when necessary
  • Act as an escalation engineer for high severity network related production issues, work with Surveillance staff, Engineers, and various vendors to identify tactical and strategic solutions
  • Ensure maximum service & network availability 24/7 - 365 days per year
  • Manage workflow of the Operational Support Engineers (OSE) team members and ensure positive results
  • Work closely with Network Operations leadership to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems
  • Develop, refine, and update outage notification and escalation policies, while creating, publishing, delivering, and ensuring adherence to Fault Management rationale, preventative maintenance procedures, and emergency recovery routines in collaboration with internal and external customers, OSE, and Network Engineering teams
  • Create, publish, and deliver on the job training sessions to the surveillance teams
  • Ensure after-outage reviews are conducted, lessons learned discovered, and future mitigation procedures are modified and published accordingly
  • Develop, publish, deliver, and oversee execution of system or service regression test plans from a Surveillance/Network Management viewpoint
  • Drive efforts to streamline and evolve systems, services, tools, and processes in support of optimizing service capabilities

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business program, OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 10+ years experience working in a Telecommunications Network Operations Center or Data Center
  • Previous management experience required
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team’s goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to build meaningful relationships with senior leadership on your team and in other departments
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Be able to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions, come up with and evaluate unique solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Be independent and self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple or complex projects while continuously looking for new and enhanced ways of doing things

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Demonstrated and proven ability to manage a large team (10 or more)

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be on call 24x7
  • Be able to travel up to 25%
  • US citizenship required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
