Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

If you are experienced in export control and compliance working in a rapidly changing environment, then you will be excited about the Export Compliance Director position on our Legal and Compliance team. As an Export Compliance Director, you’ll be responsible for actively managing the export strategy and process for the entire company, while implementing industry best practices and continuous improvements, setting objectives and effectively managing multiple priorities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Leverage your export control knowledge to resolve export policy questions and ensure required documentation is current, accurate and complete for all projects, applications and government solicitations, contracts and subcontracts
  • Provide subject matter expertise for various relevant trade compliance laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), U.S. Customs Regulations, and applicable U.S. and foreign trade control regulations
  • Determine commodity jurisdiction and classification under the EAR and ITAR as appropriate
  • Ensure timely and compliant Automated Export System (AES) reporting
  • Manage licensing requirements, applying within the State Department’s Defense Export Control and Compliance System (DECCS) and the Department of Commerce’s Simplified Network Application Process-Redesign (SNAP-R) system, supporting the post-approval process, and other agreement-related licensing activities
  • Review proposed contract language and suggesting revisions as needed to protect company interests
  • Conduct assessments of project requirements to ensure proper export control compliance
  • Be accountable for collaborating with other departments, such as supply chain, sales, shipping and product development, to establish and maintain effective and relevant export/import activities that are required to support business operations.
  • Review rule-making and guidance from a variety of sources to remain current on industry requirements and best practices and communicate relevant regulatory changes timely to ensure any necessary updates to procedures are implemented.

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • 15+ years of export experience in defense, satellite, telecommunications, or related industry
  • Experience with day-to-day licensing and related agreements, D-Trade, DECCS and SNAP-R
  • Experience with U.S. Munitions List and Export Control Classification Number classification and licensing
  • Strong familiarity with tools, processes and software applications that support federal government export and contracting activities
  • Customer service-oriented with unquestioned ethics and integrity
  • Strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and motivated to achieve outcomes and results.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information, drive discussion, and respond to difficult scenarios with limited preparation across all employee groups
  • The ability to build productive relationships with all levels of leadership to build consensus and drive results and champion collaboration across multiple departments
  • Be able to think on your feet to respond to difficult situations and resolve issues
  • Must possess good judgement and decisiveness
  • Actively looks for ways to enhance and improve current processes and procedures
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities while ensuring that work is of high quality
  • Must be proactive in seeking out knowledge and sharing what you’ve learned with others

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • An advanced degree or professional certification
  • S. Department of Defense security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one
  • Previous management experience

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel up to 20%
  • Be a U.S. citizen

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
