Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth

Who We Are:

Eras of humanity can often be defined by a dominant transportation mode - horse-drawn chariots, ocean-going boats, or aircraft. These were spurred by a small group of people rigorously focused on building technology to achieve faster access to more of the world. We seek to usher in a new era of humanity defined by universal access to the whole globe free of borders and the presence of a routine way from space to Earth. To do this, we are building highly maneuverable re-entry vehicles that can loiter in orbit before precision landing back on Earth.

What You’ll Do:

As a Harness Design Engineer at Inversion, you will have an instrumental impact on the functionality and performance of our next-generation reentry vehicles. You will have the opportunity to own the design for both prototype and flight harnessing systems that enable our spacecraft to complete its mission of operating in space and the eventual return to Earth for recovery. Your impact will be on all aspects of spacecraft harness design. You will be a key member of the Avionics team, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, Avionics.

  • End-to-end harness design for Arc spacecraft
  • Collaborate with cross-domain stakeholders to gather requirements that drive harness solutions
  • Develop harness designs in CAD environments, own technical trade studies, and key design decisions that adhere to design objectives, requirements, and standards
  • Create and manage harness drawings to support flight, qualification, and test system design
  • Own harness-level testing and investigation for risk mitigation and characterization studies
  • Perform analysis and physical testing (both mechanical and electrical) of harnessing concerning thermal, loads, vibration, and shock to ensure full qualification for flight
  • Manage harness delivery to support key milestones including integrated system tests and flight vehicle builds
  • Partner closely with harness manufacturing, third-party vendors, and integration teams to produce harnesses

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 4+ years of electro-mechanical wire harness design experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Harness design experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter for spacecraft or launch vehicles
  • Wire harness component selection and qualification experience
  • Experience managing complex harness manufacturing including foamboard creation, test and verification, and analysis of avionics enclosure design
  • Desire to work in a multidisciplinary environment with the skillset to collaborate and communicate across domain interfaces
  • Experience establishing harness design processes to improve the quality and speed of harness manufacturing for complex systems
  • Desire to approach complex designs and thoughtfully decompose challenges into manageable design tasks
  • Previous experience working in a startup environment
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
