Internship Overview:

Intuitive Machines is seeking an intern to join our team for the Summer 2025 period. This position will be located on-site at the IM Mechanisms Annex in Glen Burnie, Maryland. The intern will work in a cross-functional team on the design, development, manufacture and test of space flight and ground support structures, mechanisms, and electromechanical systems. This is a full time, paid summer internship. Under the mentorship of senior engineers

Responsibilities Or Areas of Support

  • Assist in the design and assembly of mechanical structure, attachment systems, deployment systems, and payloads associated with IM’s Nova landers and their payloads
  • Assist in the design and assembly of mechanical ground support equipment, test equipment, and tooling
  • Assist in environmental testing to include test plans, test execution, and test results evaluation. Generate CAD and drawings of mechanical hardware; perform optimization studies, interference checks, tolerance analysis
  • Set up and use test data collection devices including sensors and data acquisition systems
  • Generate work orders and test procedures
  • Devise ways to automate and otherwise improve test procedures for efficiency and repeatability
  • Organize and inventory laboratory tools, supplies, and consumable items
  • Run and post-process prototype builds on the laboratory 3D printing machines
  • Systematically document progress and capture knowledge

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an Engineering degree, or related discipline
  • Proficiency with component design and assembly management using 3D CAD software, preferably CREO
  • Familiarity with commonly used space and commercial specifications for materials, processes, fasteners, mechanical components, connectors, wiring, etc.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Lab View and the use of data acquisition systems
  • Experience with common shop tools, measuring equipment, electrical soldering
  • Experience with commercial automation tools such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi
  • Experience with Atlassian suite (e.g. Confluence, Jira)
