Interlune is a space resources company based in Seattle, WA. We will provide resources from space to power a clean and sustainable economy on Earth and in space.

We are looking for a Doer who wants to join our early-stage team and accelerate humanity’s progress toward an off-world future. Our engineering team combines expert knowledge of geological sciences, mechanical engineering, automation, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and advanced fabrication to build the infrastructure that will create an in-space economy. To join our small team, you must be agile, willing to learn, and able to take on multiple roles as needed.

We are seeking an electrical engineer to design hardware for operation on the lunar surface. This role will translate environmental, mission and operational constraints into practical designs for actuation, power, interfaces, and dust-mitigation hardware, and support component selection, integration, and test approaches through development and qualification.

Applicants from all industries are welcome, with particular emphasis in complex, multi-disciplinary system development. Familiarity with and prior experience in the space, agriculture, construction, or mining industry are valuable but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) /Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and electrostatic discharge (ESD) analysis, mitigation and test support for lunar surface hardware.
  • Collaborate with the environments and science teams to translate models of the lunar charge and plasma environment into hardware-level ESD mitigation, EMI shielding, and grounding strategies.
  • Perform full-lifecycle electrical design, including printed circuit board (PCB) design, schematic capture, layout, routing, harnessing, connector definition, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Select and evaluate electronic components and architectures suitable for extreme environments, focusing on radiation tolerance, deep thermal cycling, and vacuum operation.
  • Develop electrical test plans and lead hands-on integration, debugging, and qualification of flight hardware in simulated lunar environments (e.g., dusty thermal vacuum chambers).

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical hardware and system design, preferably for aerospace, robotics, or other high-reliability/extreme environment applications.
  • Proven experience performing EMI/EMC and ESD analysis and mitigating issues at the board and system levels.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, and communication interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, CAN, RS-422).
  • Experience defining electrical interfaces, grounding, harnessing, and connector approaches for complex hardware systems.
  • Practical, hands-on experience in a lab environment bringing up boards, troubleshooting circuits, and utilizing test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related technical subject area.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for an in-space mission, preferably on a lunar or planetary mission with surface operations.
  • Specific experience designing high-voltage systems or implementing hardware solutions for electrostatic charging and plasma interactions.
  • Strong proficiency in ECAD software (e.g., Altium Designer) for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience selecting and qualifying electrical components for vacuum, thermal cycling, radiation, or other harsh-environment applications.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft grounding architectures, formal MIL-STD EMI/EMC testing procedures, and radiation effects on electronics (TID, SEE).

Export Control Regulations

To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicants for employment at Interlune must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Interlune is seeking to hire highly motivated and forward-thinking professionals who are interested in focusing on creating our off-world future. Interlune is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religious creed, national origin, physical or mental disability, protected Veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.

Don’t meet every requirement? If you’re excited about this role but you don’t meet all of the job requirements, we encourage you to apply and explain why the experiences you do have are a suitable substitute. We’d hate to miss out on the perfect candidate for this or other roles.
