The Company: Hexagon Autonomous Solution comprises of three divisions: Agriculture, Autonomy & Positioning and Mining – Providing a breadth of perception, positioning, vehicle autonomy and site orchestration technologies to enable the full autonomous solutions for the agriculture, mining, automotive and marine sectors.
The Project: Hexagon has partnered with our mining client to develop an autonomous haulage solution that will deploy and operate a world-first fleet of 120 fully Autonomous Road Trains to carry ore 150km to the Port. The solution, which includes drive-by-wire technology and an autonomous management system, is a truck-agnostic, full-site solution designed to streamline vehicle movement in road-train haulage.

Responsibilities
The Position; We are seeking an Autonomous Application Engineer to join our Autonomous Road Train Engineering team. This role will see you responsible for supporting and continuously improve quality systems within our technologies operational and production environment, ensuring quality, testing and validation requirements are aligned between field and product development.
This role serves as the sole in-country representative of a global engineering team, acting as the critical link between local field teams and global product development teams.
Operating independently, the position requires ability to work across a diverse stakeholder group, displaying ownership, initiative, and the ability to navigate on ground requirements in alignment with key engineering milestones.
As an Autonomous Application Engineer, you will play a critical role in interfacing between field teams and product development teams to identify critical priorities and solutions in addition you will the responsible for, but not limited to;
- Providing front line product and application support to address quality issues for both internal and external customers
- Liaising with other departments regarding technical matters
- Formulating and implementing procedures and plans for resolving problems
- Performing software testing, verification, bug reports, and field trial coordination
- Reviewing technical documentation materials and manuals
- Generating application notes for frequently asked questions and knowledge base
This position will see you based at our project site based in Wangara in a 12mth Fixed term contract with possible extension.
Qualifications
About you
We are looking for an experience Autonomous Application Engineer with a background in large scale product development for autonomous technology, who is ready for the next step in their career, where your knowledge, skills, experience and passion can be pivotal in the success of a world class Autonomous Program.
In addition we are seeking those with the following qualifications and skills;
Technical
- Degree in Geomatics, Electrical Engineering or related field
- Prior experience in autonomous technology ideally from concept through to testing/validation and commissioning
- Prior experience in supporting quality and testing environments
- Understanding and exposure to Autonomous technology in automotive or ASH/Mining environments
- Understanding of auto electrical application in heavy industrial environments or mining
- Proven problem solving/ troubleshooting skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to get on with others
- English fluency with excellent verbal and written skills
- Ability to work across global time zones inc of US (east and west)
General
- High attention to detail and highly organised
- Strong multitasker with keen ability to prioritize
- Comfortable working individually but know when to ask for help
- Work well in a collaborative environment
- Valid Australian working rights: Permanent Resident or Australian Citizen
