QA Test Engineer - Machine Control Division

Job Description

QA Test Engineer - Machine Control Division

Do you want to be part of a global team digitizing the heavy construction industry and contributing to a more sustainable world?

At Leica Geosystems Technology, we are looking for a QA Test Engineer for our Machine Control Division. We are seeking a highly professional Test Engineer with solid experience in a testing role. The ideal candidate will have expertise in manual testing across multiple levels, with a strong focus on improving testing processes and delivering high-quality software.

About the role
You will be part of the On-Machine Software department, which designs and develops machine control software for heavy construction machines, with a primary focus on Excavators. Your work will span from embedded systems to our Leica MC1 machine control application - the operator-facing platform that guides and automates machines directly from the cabin. All our software runs on specialized hardware mounted on real machines.

Your day-to-day will be varied - from in-office feature testing and regression testing on our local T-Site, to getting out in the field and testing software on real excavators under real working conditions. You will also be involved in requirements and design, shaping features before they're built.

You will be directly embedded in a software Scrum team as the team's dedicated test engineer, working alongside Software Engineers, Product Specialists, and UI/UX specialists. The software team is based in Stockholm, while you will be working from our office in Odense, Denmark. This means you will have a high degree of autonomy in your day-to-day work, while being well-supported by experienced QA colleagues on-site in Odense and staying closely connected with your Scrum team through daily collaboration.

Key responsibilities
Quality from the Start: Participate in feature planning, requirements refinement, and design discussions - helping the team define clear acceptance criteria and test scenarios before a single line of code is written.

  • Sprint Planning & Estimation: Help the Scrum team break down and estimate work with a quality perspective, ensuring testability and risk are considered early.
  • Software & System Testing: Plan, execute, and lead both functional and non-functional testing, including regression and performance testing - in-office as well as on construction machinery at test sites.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain test plans, test cases, and detailed test documentation that is clear and concise.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of QA processes, methodologies, and test strategies across both SAFe and Scrum teams.
Your profile
You have a relevant tertiary education - a bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, surveying, computer science, or a related technical field - or equivalent hands-on commercial experience. What matters most is that you are curious, hands-on, and genuinely interested in construction machinery and the technology behind it. We're looking for someone who is self-driven and collaborative - eager to take ownership of their work while being a great teammate.

We expect you to have:
  • Solid experience in a testing or quality assurance role
  • Experience working in agile teams with iterative development and regular delivery cycles
  • Experience in creating and maintaining test documentation (test plans, test cases, reports)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with stakeholders at various levels
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your testing responsibilities, while proactively seeking collaboration with both your remote Scrum team and local QA colleagues
Desired skills:
  • ISTQB or other relevant certifications
  • Exposure to JIRA or similar project tracking tools
  • Experience in machine control software or the construction industry; ability to comfortably operate construction machines is a big plus
  • Experience working in Linux environments
  • Field test experience, particularly setting up field test environments
  • Awareness of test automation concepts and tools - while our current focus is on manual testing, we have ambitions to introduce automated testing in the coming years, and an interest in helping shape that journey is welcome
Language: Fluent English, both written and verbal, is a prerequisite. Additional languages are an advantage.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required, for example to visit test sites or collaborate with the Stockholm team.
