Chief Engineer, Perception
Hexagon A&P’s Perception Team is responsible for developing and deploying perception solutions that enable our internal and external customers to fully utilize their autonomous vehicle in the presence of known and unknown obstacles. We are a collaborative team of driven engineers with a mission to simplify and advance vehicle technology to empower our customers to unleash autonomy; driving improved efficiency, productivity, quality, and safety.
As Chief Engineer, Perception at AutonomouStuff, you will work with the latest technology while solving interesting and challenging problems in multiple industries. You will be ultimately responsible for the perception product engineering, including design, validation, launch, and pre-sales support including hardware selection, requirements generation, validation and verification, and ultimately deployment on site.
The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based in Canada with flexibility to be at either the Calgary, Alberta or Ottawa, Ontario site.
Responsibilities
As Chief Engineer, Perception, you will:
- Lead the product engineering team in hardware selection, requirements generation, development, validation and verification, and ultimately deployment on site
- Build and manage a team of systems, software, and verification engineers
- Participate in safety and security analysis and other functional safety and security engineering processes
- Work closely with the CORE data, algorithms, software, and hardware teams to build perception products
- Work closely with the Manufacturing and Operations teams to ensure products are manufactured to the highest quality and meeting customer delivery expectations
- Lead the team contributing to customer documentation and training material
- Help the team to understand customer integration concerns and ensure solutions are designed to solve customer problems
- Establish a Verification and Validation strategy that best optimizes resources while establishing a strong testing culture
- Establish a product launch, training, and support system that enables Hexagon's support team to continue to be world class
- Visit customers, suppliers, and trade shows as needed
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline
- 8-10 years of product design experience
- Demonstrated leadership in large scale commercial product launches
- Well rounded background with experience engaging with manufacturing, engineer, supply chain, legal, and direct engagements with customers
- Experience providing leadership and mentorship to more junior engineers
Key Success Factors:
- Working knowledge of product design life cycles
- Experience, or a strong interest to learn, perception software for object detection and positioning
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A positive attitude toward continuous improvement
- Exceptional problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Adaptable to fast changing requirements
- Ability to mentor and coach individual engineers
- Self-motivated problem solver
Nice-to-Have:
- Prior experience with perception systems
- Agriculture or Mining product launch experience
- Verification and validation automation experience
- Experience working with vehicles such as tractors and trucks for data collection and validation
