As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and building scalable backend systems that power HERE's Last Meter services. You will lead technical direction, contribute to architecture decisions, and work closely with cross-functional engineering and product teams.

This role is backend-focused with a strong emphasis on TypeScript (Node.js) and cloud-native development.

What You'll Do

Design and develop scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
Build and maintain high-performance REST APIs used by web and mobile applications.
Architect and optimize data storage solutions using PostgreSQL (AWS RDS).
Deploy and operate services in Kubernetes environments.
Collaborate with frontend, mobile, and platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Lead engineering best practices, including code quality, reviews, testing, and CI/CD.
Contribute to system design, scalability, and performance optimization.
Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.

NOTE: This is an individual contributor role.

Who are you?

8+ years of software engineering experience with strong full-stack web development skills.
Strong experience in TypeScript / Node.js backend development.
Proven experience building and scaling RESTful APIs.
Experience and motivation to use agentic coding harnesses (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot).
Experience working with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
Strong understanding of microservices architecture.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or similar).
Solid understanding of system design, scalability, and performance.
A product-focused individual with great communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

Experience with Python for data processing, analytics, or automation.
Exposure to data engineering and machine learning workflows.
Experience with Redis or caching strategies.
Familiarity with real-time or location-based systems.
