Hadrian - Manufacturing the Future
Hadrian builds software-defined precision component factories for aerospace customers. After a successful customer beta phase, we are expanding to our second factory in Torrance and hiring the last members of our foundational team.
We are looking for machinists with a passion to push the trade forward and engineers with the drive to augment manufacturing.
Hadrian’s core mission is to develop the next generation of manufacturing workers. Our unique technology enables us to significantly de-risk complex operations and ultimately allows entry-level individuals to perform tasks that would otherwise require extensive training.
However, this does not mean that the job is easy- on the contrary, our technology requires active problem solving by our employees, and success is defined by an ability to control machines and make smart decisions on top of hands-on work.
The Workforce Development Department’s goals are :
(1) Support Hadrian’s growth by ensuring quick onboarding of entry level workers. Our objective is to teach new employees to work on 5-axis mills within 60 to 90 days of their start date.
(2) Create training content for high precision manual work in post processing areas where there is no automation potential.
(3) Develop educational programs to upskill employees throughout their entire Hadrian tenure. This includes transmitting machining and manufacturing fundamentals. In essence, build an in-house trade school.
The role will be focused on Hadrian’s hourly workforce (which include generalist and specialized FTEs) but will work with the full gamut of the Operations team, which include some of the most skilled individuals in the industry. Much of the success will reside in the ability to ensure transmission of experienced colleagues’ implicit knowledge.

What you will do in your first 30 days :

  • Go through onboarding as Factory Technician to achieve first hand understanding of Hadrian systems & processes as well as technical depth needed to train new hires
  • Develop SOPs and training procedures for a post-processing station, and teach the actual process to a trainee in an off the job context to gain exposure to full life cycle of training project management
  • Define the general outlines of a revamped Technician onboarding process and work with Hadrian's operations leadership to validate and implement pilot program
  • Get your sea legs in an intense startup environment

Success for the first 12 months :

  • Roll out Technician onboarding, including continuous improvement mechanisms, with a target of supporting aggressive production ramp up
  • Ensure all stations have ludic and up to date SOPs. Write technical content that is engaging and easy to interpret, leveraging visuals and other media
  • Conduct off-the-job (classroom) teaching for Machining fundamentals, leveraging creative pedagogical techniques that place the student at the center of the educational experience.
  • Serve as extra trainer for bottlenecked stations in the factory.
  • Own design, development, and implementation of revamped Factory Technician onboarding process ("bootcamp") with equal focus on hard and soft skills
  • Ensure parity in training structure/expectations between on-machine and off-machine stations, with a particular focus on enabling seamless skill sharing on manual work between experienced machinists and entry level technicians

What you might do later :

  • Build partnerships with local educational institutions with the high level goal of building an apprenticeship program that leverages the best of traditional machining with Hadrian technology
  • Develop specific training plans for robotics-enhanced workstations, with a particular focus on empowering technicians to make autonomous decisions in the framework of high intensity production
  • Ensure consistency of on-the-job training by auditing existing practices, coaching trainers, and developing training evaluation criteria
  • Progressively create Hadrian's Learning Management System

What is out of scope :

  • Performance reviews
  • Compliance trainings
  • Any sort of online training

Who you will be working with

  • Report to Armand Latreille, Head of Workforce Development - https://www.linkedin.com/in/armandlatreille/
  • Work hand-in-hand with Casey Warner & Kevin Lang, Factory Leads, along with the rest of Hadrian's Operations leadership team
  • Interface with Automation team (software engineering, front end interface design, robotics engineering)

To be considered for this role, you need

  • Experience teaching a skill to someone else and designing a system for repeated knowledge transmission within a technical field or in a fast-paced business environment
  • Demonstrated experience in experimenting with pedagogical techniques to design engaging, powerful, and transformative educational experiences
  • Passion for manufacturing and understanding of the unique complexities of a high-precision manufacturing environment

You will stand out if you have

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with a track record of creating order out of chaos, no matter what function you were in
  • Experience in the educational field, specifically in innovative educational institutions (charter schools)
  • Experience designing training programs for companies with niche operational requirements, whatever that may be
  • Familiarity with precision manufacturing concepts, specifically subtractive metal removing techniques, or experience running a CNC machine
