About Unacast
Unacast is a global leader in location intelligence, transforming our understanding of human activity in the physical world. We leverage machine learning and AI to extract valuable, privacy-friendly insights from location data, delivering unique intelligence to companies across various industries. We're a thriving company with a strong client base, yet we maintain the startup spirit where your work truly makes an impact—join us as we enter an exciting phase of growth and innovation!
The Team
The Visitation team is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining systems that model mobility patterns for tens of millions of locations across the globe. We don't just predict how busy a place is; we also infer the profile of a typical visitor, popular visitation times, average duration of stay, and many other actionable insights about the venue or its surrounding area.
Our team has members in Pilsen (Czech Rep.) and Oslo (Norway). We work in a hybrid model—balancing remote work with in-office collaboration. Typically, we spend one or two days a week in the respective office, where we work, share meals, and even do yoga together. We expect you to work in person at least once a week or as needed based on current needs.
Position Overview
We are looking for a curious and skilled Data Scientist to help us design and implement models and data-driven insights into human mobility patterns across millions of locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the development and evolution of spatio-temporal models to understand and predict human mobility patterns.- Design reliable evaluation methodologies and define meaningful metrics to assess model performance and data quality.- Collaborate closely with data engineers to implement and deploy solutions in production environments.- Stay updated on and experiment with the latest trends in modeling techniques, such as time-series analysis, graph neural networks (GNNs), and large language models (LLMs).- Communicate findings, methodologies, and learnings clearly to the team, broader company, and occasionally to clients.
- Innovate scalable methods to enrich models with new features or data sources.
- Conduct exploratory analyses to uncover patterns and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Preprocess and clean data sources (input signals) to ensure high-quality results and analyze their impact on outputs.
- Systematically improve existing models by collecting ground truth, monitoring quality, and conducting thorough testing.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience in Data Science or Machine Learning, with a focus on production-ready solutions.- SQL skills for data manipulation and analysis.- Familiarity with best practices in MLOps, including model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.- A collaborative, positive, and proactive attitude.
- Persistence and adaptability when faced with challenges.
- Comfortable communicating in English.
- Solid foundation in statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
- Proficiency in Python, including experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or BigQuery ML.
It is also great if you:
- Are interested and have experience working with data of geospatial and/or temporal nature.- Are familiar with MLOps or DevOps principles.
- Are interested in using LLM solutions for explainability/interpretation.
- Have experience working with large datasets and cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS).
Once you get up to speed, we expect you to:
- Contribute significantly to shaping the future of our unique, large-scale modeling approaches.- Help devise scalable, cutting-edge solutions for complex challenges in mobility modeling.
- Adapt and thrive in our dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure impactful, customer-focused results.
- Deliver key analyses that highlight the strengths of our methods and drive innovation.
What we offer:
- A passionate, intelligent and fun product team
- Impactful work on unique, cutting-edge solutions.
- Flexible work location (with 1-2 days/week in the office).
- Professional development support (including regular hackathons and 3 “learn-something-new” days per year).
- Scandinavian work culture with flexible hours
- Competitive salary
- An international work environment with colleagues from around the world
- Five weeks of vacation
- A new MacBook Pro or other preferred laptop
- Regular social/sport activities (yoga lessons, running, climbing, etc.).
