The Communications team are storytellers at Grab, shaping our global narrative across diverse audiences, from media and influencers to policymakers and the broader community. The Communications team strategically partners with all business functions to ensure stakeholders understand and champion Grab's vision and goals.
Get to Know the Role
You'll lead our media strategy, rebuild editorial presence, while driving communications for one of our most dynamic verticals. You'll be the go-to person for media engagement and community storytelling—shaping how Grab is understood by the public, press, and policymakers.
This role is ideal for someone who is both strategic and hands-on, with deep media networks especially in the fast-moving world of transport and grassroots narratives.
You will be reporting to Head, Communications. This role will be onsite in Jakarta office.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
Media Relations & Strategy
- Lead Grab Indonesia's national and local media strategy, ensuring consistent, credible, and impactful coverage.
- Cultivate strong relationships with journalists and editors to proactively pitch stories that shape public understanding of Grab's societal role, while also developing Grab leaders as key spokespeople.
- Coordinate media spending by aligning with Marketing to optimize the balance between earned and paid media channels.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure all public-facing messages are coherent and consistent.
Mobility Communications & Reputation Management
- Lead communications for GrabBike and GrabCar, translating operational updates into compelling stories and mitigating reputational risks related to pricing, service, and driver sentiment.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing, Operations, and Public Affairs to align comms with business priorities.
Community Relations & Tactical Activation
- Foster strong community relations through on-ground campaigns and local storytelling, maintaining a vital feedback loop.
- Partner with Territory teams to bring local community stories to life—connecting national narrative with grassroots proof.
Measurement & Planning
- Monitor media outcomes, track sentiment, report on PR effectiveness, and contribute to quarterly communications planning and issue preparedness.
Qualifications
What Essential Skills You Will Need
- 8+ years of experience in media/public relations and digital communication, both in agency or in-house.
- Proven expertise in media relations, with a strong track record of securing high-quality coverage and managing press dynamics.
- Established media network across national and local outlets, coupled with excellent editorial judgment and messaging instincts.
- Hands-on experience in community engagement, including KOL/influencer management and grassroots outreach.
- Strategic communications experience in transport or public services is a plus.
- Strong team player with proven people management skills, balanced by an individual contributor mindset for hands-on work.
- Exceptional writing skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with the ability to simplify complex information into compelling messages.
