Get to Know the Team

We are manage the development of the search platform, which supports all keyword search and recommendation scenarios for Grab's food and mart channels. In addition to the backend development of the platform, our team also participates in the design of recall and ranking strategies to improve search performance.

Get to Know the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our food search team, reporting to the Software Engineering Manager. You will oversee the maintenance, design, and optimization of our distributed search platform, conduct requirement analysis, and manage product team interactions to support search business applications. You will also track quality, optimizing performance, and developing search and ranking strategies for multiple scenarios, contributing to continuous improvement.

This role is onsite based in our Petaling Jaya, Malaysia office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • You will improve the distributed search platform for Grab's food and mart channels.
  • You will work with product teams for requirement analysis and interface design to support search business applications.
  • You will participate in code reviews, testing, debugging, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • You will design search and ranking strategies with data scientists and product managers.
  • You will propose and implement new features, algorithms, and architectures for platform enhancement.
  • You will investigate and resolve production issues to ensure minimal downtime and user impact.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • We're looking for someone with at least 4 years of work experience in maintaining, designing, and optimizing distributed search or related systems.
  • You will understand in developing search/recommendation and ranking strategies for different usage scenarios.
  • You are well-versed in programming skills in one or more languages relevant to search platform development (e.g Go). Familiarity with search engine technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr, Lucene) and their application in a distributed environment.
  • You understand building microservices architecture and a good grasp of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and message queuing systems. Your knowledge in these areas will develop our back-end services.
