Get to Know the Team

The Mobility team, responsible for Grab's ride-hailing module, enhances the core transport booking experience for millions of users. We're a diverse, distributed team working on high-throughput, real-time systems that use machine learning to handle hundreds of millions of daily requests. Our mission is to deliver the best passenger experiences, promoting service adoption and engagement. Based in Singapore, Malaysia, China, and Vietnam, we communicate in English and have an impact on Grab's success. This role is onsite based in our Petaling Jaya, Malaysia office.

Get to Know the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Mobility Team. You will be reporting to Senior Engineering Manager. You will ensure deliverables, spanning across multiple main services powering end-to-end-user journeys going from the login screen to the home and activity pages of the Grab app. These services are one of the top entry points for Grab services, with millions of visitors every day across 8 countries in total.

The Critical Tasks You will Perform

  • You will design and write with the Go language to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Grab's range of services
  • You will work with the engineering team to explore and create new design/architectures geared toward scale and performance
  • You will participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards
  • You will participate in service capacity and demand planning, software performance analysis, tuning, and optimization
  • You will collaborate with product and experience teams to define and prototype feature specifications
  • You will work with the infrastructure team in building and scaling back-end services and performing root cause analysis investigations
  • You will debug and solve production incidents during your on-call shift
  • You will provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to peers.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • You have a degree in Computer Science or related fields
  • You will have at least 5+ years of experience in software engineering in a distributed systems environment
  • You have Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures
  • You have experience with system performance and scaling
  • You can be a good coder in any language but willing to work on Golang
