Get to Know the Role

We're seeking talented support engineers for our APEX and Data Tech teams. In APEX, you'll handle level 1 issues, fulfill requests, and support cloud infrastructure and developer tooling. In Data Tech, you'll support platform engineering, developer tools, and data streams, catering to a diverse range of customers across Grab.

These roles are key to serving our large developer community and managing complex tools and automation requirements, with growth opportunities in areas like systems administration, backend coding, cloud automation, security, and SRE (Site Reliability Engineering). You'll contribute to large-scale data infrastructure and advanced data automation, use monitoring tools to track system metrics and minimize disruptions, collaborate with teams to optimize system performance, conduct post-incident reviews for process refinement, and maintain a dynamic dashboard using SuperSet and Google Data Studio(GDS).

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • You will update and maintain the knowledge management platform for efficient issue resolution, and serving as an escalation point for managing Grab's largest data platform, providing scalable and resilient open-source big data technologies as services to other teams, encompassing Airflow, Spark, Kubernetes, and more.

  • You will support infrastructure automation and monitoring tools for various platform teams within the Kubernetes ecosystem, and assisting in the development of operational and strategic technical roadmaps to address business problems effectively.

  • You will participate in incident management, including on-call shifts, postmortems, and operational process improvements for the systems under the team's responsibility, and catering to user needs for more real-time data while prioritizing self-service and automation.

  • You will collaborate closely with the infrastructure team to build and scale back-end services, conduct root cause analysis investigations, and understanding, championing, and enforcing security and compliance policies and procedures as part of providing internal tools technical support.

  • You will support the developer community in their requirements, emphasizing self-service and automation where feasible, and collaborating with the security team to incorporate their needs into automated guardrails for developer resources.

  • You will contribute to the design and implementation of new configurations for cloud resource utilization, acting as the initial responder for Tech Monitoring alerts during regular office hours on weekdays, responding promptly to system and business alerts, investigating issues and determining the need for escalation to on-call engineers to ensure uninterrupted operations, and refining and optimizing monitoring strategies, alert thresholds and response procedures.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • We're looking for someone who has been a DevOps or DevSecOps practitioner with experience in operating production services in cloud environments, familiarity with build and deploy tooling, and infrastructure automation and management tools. Experience in software engineering within a distributed systems environment is a must.

  • This role requires working knowledge of various databases and big data process engine systems like Hive, Spark, Presto, Kafka, Apache Flink, etc., along with proficiency in at least one of the programming languages Java, Scala, Python, or Go.

  • You are familiar with monitoring tools and experience with log management and analysis tools such as Elastic Search, PagerDuty, Splunk. Proven experience in technical monitoring, incident management, and system administration.

  • You have working experience using GitLab for version control and a genuine passion for cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automation, demonstrated through exploration and experimentation with new products.

  • You are well versed in micro-service architectures and willingness to work on-call shift and respond to incidents outside of regular business hours.

  • You are proficient in writing efficient SQL queries, experience with reporting tools, and experience in working with one or more cloud environments, with a preference for AWS and/or Azure.
