Our Mobility vertical mobile team is at the helm of creating affordable and premium Transport verticals in the Grab app. Our mission lies in enhancing the booking experience and consistently improving our service to consumers. Our team comprises talented and diverse iOS and Android engineers. Get to know the role

We are looking for a talented and passionate junior Android Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will get the opportunity to work on the Android passenger app that benefits millions of consumers every single day. Awaiting you are exhilarating product ideas and engrossing engineering challenges, where you will be one of the first to experience your own work within the Grab app!

The Critical Tasks You will Perform

• You will work closely with the Product/Design/Analytics teams to understand problems and requirements, providing them with insights, options, trade-offs, estimations, and timelines.
• You will collaborate with Android/Backend/QA engineers to brainstorm and implement technical solutions that are scalable, extensible, reliable, and meet the actual problem's needs.
• You will write reusable, scalable, and testable code while ensuring features are delivered on time and with high quality.
• You will register, study, and participate in code reviews to provide constructive feedback and improve overall engineering practices.
• You will show responsibility and responsiveness when working on-call duty. Display readiness to triage, debug, mitigate, and fix production issues.
• You will identify inefficiencies in the codebase, systems, and processes. Proactively suggesting improvements and taking action items to address them.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have solid foundation in Computer Science, including knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and system design.
• You have deep passion for mobile app development.
• You are exposed to Kotlin, RxJava, and Java through academic coursework, internships or personal projects.
• You are familiar with Android system and programming paradigms such as OOP and TDD.
• You have working knowledge of architectural approaches like MVP, MVVM as part of academic projects.
• You had hands-on experience with testing frameworks, specific to unit and UI testing.
• You possess basic understanding of UI aspects, particularly view cycle, views, and layouts.
• You are familiar with or coursework around Jetpack Compose and Dagger Dependency Injection would be a plus.
• You have basic knowledge of app performance and troubleshooting techniques.
