Get to Know the Team

Join the team that serves the very core of Grab — the Sentry team. Our systems handle billions of network messages daily for Grab's users, while our service orchestration and discovery platforms ensure the reliability of hundreds of Grab services. Collaborating with infrastructure, security, and product teams, we seek talented engineers to strengthen our platform team.

Get to Know the Role

As part of our team, you will build, operate, and maintain high-performing solutions that Just Work™. Leveraging world-class technology stacks, the software you create will power Grab’s unique on-demand services across Southeast Asia, from transport and payments to food and more. Your work will provide the stability and efficiency necessary for millions of daily users.

The Critical Tasks You will Perform

• You will build and own Grab's gateway systems, connecting millions of consumer devices with hundreds of backend services through Grab's service mesh.
• You will work from Grab's Vietnam headquarters, collaborating with software engineering and product teams to develop robust and secure solutions.
• You will operate in a multi-cloud environment, designing scalable, zero-downtime network traffic routing and analytics solutions for Grab's "public edge."
• You will drive projects independently across teams from inception to deployment.
• You will identify and fix issues within Grab's entire infrastructure and code base.
• You will develop, maintain, and operate control and data-plane components and resolve production incidents.
• You will implement quality solutions using Go and Lua, uphold high standards in code reviews and deployments, mentor peers, and promote development and operational excellence.

Qualifications

What Skills You will Need

• Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years in professional software development.
• Problem-solving: Natural problem solver with a sense of ownership for your team’s systems and software components.
• Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, and the internet.
  • Expertise in at least one of these languages: C, C#, C++, Go.
  • Skills in building highly-available distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in Bash, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with common patterns and algorithms for effective debugging and troubleshooting.
• Communication: Strong English communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Expertise in HTTP/2, QUIC, and gRPC.
• Experience dealing with massive concurrency and designing resilient algorithms.
• Skills in building monitoring and alerting systems.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and large-scale Docker/Kubernetes deployments.
• Experience with Consul and/or Envoy, including their code base and community.
• Background in a startup environment.
