As part of the Propulsion team at Gilmour Space, you will be responsible for leading the manufacture and production readiness of pump and turbomachinery hardware across the workshop. This role drives the transition of products from R&D into repeatable production by developing robust manufacturing processes, tooling, assembly and test capability, and ensuring efficient delivery of complex components into repeatable production. How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:
The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do:
- Lead turbomachinery manufacturing activities across multiple workcenters.
- Support manufacturing engineering planning and execution to ramp-up from prototype builds through to production.
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes, work instructions, travellers, inspection steps, and production documentation to enable repeatable builds.
- Design, specify, and manage jigs, fixtures, tooling, and assembly/test tooling, ensuring they are fit-for-purpose and support efficient production.
- Drive design-for-manufacture improvements in collaboration with engineering teams to reduce cost, risk, and build time.
- Support CNC machining operations through process planning, tool selection, machining strategy input, and continuous improvement.
- Lead the identification, investigation, and resolution of non-conformances, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions.
- Work with workshop teams to ensure appropriate tools, equipment, consumables, and processes are available to deliver complex components efficiently.
- Support supplier engagement and outsourcing activities where required, including technical communication, supplier capability evaluation, and quality follow-up.
- Collaborate across Propulsion, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Workshop teams to deliver hardware on schedule and to specification.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements across throughput, yield, quality, and manufacturing flow.
- Ensure manufacturing activities align with safety requirements, quality standards, and company procedures.
- Provide senior influence, technical guidance and support the development of the junior team,
- Perform other duties as requested by Management
Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline
- 7+ years of experience in a professional engineering setting (excluding internships),
- 4+ years’ experience with CAD designing parts and assemblies
(NX/Teamcenter preferred, but other relevant experience is valuable), - 4+ years’ experience in manufacturing engineering or precision manufacturing roles, ideally involving complex assemblies and tight tolerances.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, machining processes, and workshop best practices.
- Demonstrated experience transitioning hardware from R&D/prototype into production.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to work with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Eligible to obtain NV1 Security Clearance (preferred).

- Experience manufacturing turbomachinery or high-speed rotating equipment (experience with rocket engine components preferred).
- Experience in high-performance industries such as aerospace, defence, motorsport, or advanced manufacturing.
- Proven capability in design for manufacture and practical manufacturing engineering problem solving.
- Experience designing and commissioning jigs/fixtures/tooling for assembly and test environments.
- Strong understanding of quality systems, non-conformance handling, and structured root cause analysis.
- Experience developing and supporting Quality Inspection & Assurance processes
