Instructional Designer - Student Contractor

GHGSat offers greenhouse gas detection, measurement, and monitoring services to industrial and government customers around the world. The company uses its own satellites and aircraft sensors, combined with third-party data, to help industrial emitters better understand, control, and reduce their emissions.

We are seeking an Instructional Designer Student Contractor to join our People & Culture Team. Reporting to the Manager of Training and Development, you will work with People and Culture team members and subject matter experts within GHGSat’s Operations Team to develop technical training material that will be used to support the technical onboarding for new operations technicians. This is a temporary, full-time position from January – April, 2025.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of in-class and online training material and other learning tools and resources to support onboarding and technical training programs.
  • Review current training materials and processes and support needs analyses to ensure the creation of training programs that address training objectives and learners’ knowledge gaps.
  • Work with GHGSat’s Subject Matter Experts to capture important information concerning training goals and content.
  • Utilize instructional design principles to create both in-person and e-learning modules.
  • Develop training materials such as presentations, manuals, job aids, and quizzes.
  • Assist in the rollout of the onboarding program, providing support during implementation.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of instructional design and development methods (i.e. ADDIE, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with authoring technologies/programs to create technical e-learning content.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within the team, with minimal direction.
  • Quick-learner, able to establish and respond to priorities in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
  • Good organizational, planning, and time-management skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Creative thinking.
  • Drive for taking ownership of tasks while maintaining effective communication with all stakeholders along the way.

Requirements:

  • Current student or recent graduate from a Instructional Technology or Education Technology program, or similar program.
  • Must be able to obtain Canadian government security clearance.
  • Experience in creating training material, such as on-line learning, distance learning, virtual classrooms, etc. (in workplace environments for adult learners is considered an asset).
  • Some experience in collaborating with subject-matter experts to design instructional material (in workplace environments for adult learners is considered an asset).
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Knowledge of learning management systems, synchronous teaching and video capture tools.
  • Knowledge of best practices for curriculum development and competency-based education and active learning strategies.
  • Knowledge of Adult Learning Principles.
  • Knowledge on best practice in developing quality online, e-learning education.
  • Experience in providing advice and making recommendations on the design of instructional material.
  • Experience with graphics/photo software programs
  • Experience in project management.
  • Interest in space, satellites, remote sensing, GIS, or environmental monitoring.
